Most of the Detector specialist shops in the Goldfields have hire detectors. Be aware they can require a significant deposit on the higher end detectors, which you get back. Bendigo, Ballarat, Dunolly and I know that Coiltek in Maryborough do. Either Google or phone around.

How much do you want to spend? I think coiltek do a 4500 for $70 per day more for the 5000, Goldsearch do the TDI/SPP for around $40 or $50 perday.
I am sure there are other places that will rent you one. Just make sure they give you some tuition and a pick.

Last time at Coiltek, if they don't know you, they need a $500 deposit in some form. They have had issues with rental detector theft.

I've hired from two places, the first only required a drivers license, but now after a few incidents they will require driver's license, a couple of bills, (to confirm your address is correct) or other photo id, and a credit card that has the details of the person hiring(and a deposit on top I've heard). Just make a phone call before you go in to see what each stores policy is.

Miners Den in Mitcham hire out detectors $150.00 per day or $70.00 1/2 a day for a GPX5000.
Coiltek is only $85.00 per day.

Depends where you want to prospect I spose.

Atomrat, ask if they hire the SDC2300 mate, that's the one i would be hiring out. :)

Wow, so many great answers! I will probably hire one out from Miner's Den, either a 5000 or SD would be absolutely perfect! I think I have all the info I need now, thanks for that I.D info as well Goldtarget as I wouldn't have thought of some of that and would have shown up empty handed! I will of course ring first.

I know very little about coiltech detectors though, I will have to read some more on them. I have bought myself the white's Surf PI kit to build for some fun, but from what I have been told they are not good near high mineralised ground?

If it's the kit I built a while ago it does't have a ground balance so very noisy but will work ok on the beach.

Coiltek Manufacturing make coils. They do not make detectors and they are located in S.A.

Coiltek Gold Centre is located in Maryborough Vic and is a detector shop specialising in Minelab detectors.

Hi everyone,

My old boy is on the cusp of purchasing as SDC2300 but really wants to try before he buys. Does anyone know if you can hire one around the Ararat, Beaufort area?

cheers

Thanks Kman,

We went up there the other day and he nearly bought one. Was not sure if they hired them or not.

He asked what his best price was and $3995 was all he could do. MinersDen have them for the same price but throw in a carry pack, gloves and 3hr training session too.

I will ring em up tomoz and get a price for hire

Just checked the Coiltec Gold Centre, Maryborough website. The SDC hires for $50 per day. If you want to hire for more than one consecutive day, the rate reduces by 10%.

Good luck Bob.

Decided to act some advice and hire an SDC 2300 and a GPX 5000. I can't make up my mind what to buy. So time to swing them both and see how confused I get. Monday can't get here quick enough. Lol
