Perhaps a bit of leather or cardboard on either side of the coin first before the hammering just to preserve the detail on the 1854(yahoo) coin.
My eldest young fella straitened one of my bent silvers like that,... so I let him keep that one.

Just give her a good whack with the hammer and she'll be fine mate.

The old English silvers are nice coins if you can find them.

Another couple of hours today. No silvers but I like the lead Bobby.

Looks like an old style hammer head that they use on sheet metal and panel beating.

Had a quick swing outside the yard, between the fence and concrete path. Testing my new headphones. Grey Ghosts, like them so far.
I found this object. Some sort of brass. The bottom whole has thread for a bolt. Any ideas?

Another day at the office :D Spent a few hours with Rocket again. New location which we both came up with so I don't feel I'm stealing his finds. ;)
Not much trash which is great. I think 6 silvers is my best day so far. One of the more interesting finds was a square copper nail. Rocket got one as well. Plus the smallest piece of a coin I have found. Amazing what these modern detectors can find.

Ramjet - you are smashing it mate!!! Had a laugh about the nail - you want funny old nails? Detect the GT for a day - you could open a bloody Bunnings franchise.. Coins are excellent - good pics.

Thanks loamer. I thought the nail was a bit odd as we were a long way from water. This is in suburbia, not out in the GT. :D
Assuming copper nails are used for boat building. I guess they had other uses as well.

I use copper nails just like that one when trying to kill off shrubs that won't die - a couple of copper nails in the trunk usually does it.

Very nice finds there RJ - gotta come up with a team name - Team RJRocket?
