Ahhhh, it not's gold it seems....... :( Was still a bit sus on the fact it had no hallmark also the colour and weight of it so I did a specific gravity test, it came in at 7.85 which is quite a bit lighter than 9k, lessons learned, don't assume and specific gravity doesn't lie. I tested a known 9k ring to make sure my calculations were correct and they were. The colour is similar to another rose gold piece I have but is a bit redder. Doh!

Anyway hit the same spot again today and managed another $28 over 2 hours.

The 9k rings I found are always becoming tarnished, no wonder the US doesn't accept 9k as "gold jewellery" considering the high silver content (plus high copper content for rose gold).

Yeah it sure can tarnish badly GP, that "AO Copp" ring I found was very tarnished when I dug it up, it cleaned up very easily with metal polish though.

Yeah had written a post and then deleted it stating with those id numbers I doubt it was rose gold, just didnt want to crush your gold dream. Interesting I am yet to find a tarnished gold ring even 9ct.

So yeah gold is normally a bit lower on the conductive, most of the rings I've found have been 12:31-32. It's hard stuff to get a feel for with TID's as it can be all over the place with the conductive numbers but is mosty a 12 Fe ID for jewellery. The little one I got last week was 12:05.

Oh well, no big deal. :D

I did a SG on the piece I found it came in at 7.81 and still none the wiser as to what metal it is... lol :) :Y:

Pretty much impossible to pick gold going by conductive numbers, that bottom ring that came up 12:44 is stamped 957 which is 23k, I reckon the other content of the alloy must be silver to give such a high conductive reading. I was expecting a florin when I dug it up.

Nice! I want to find Gold rings! :D

Me too mate, though they are few and far between around my area. Seems it's raining gold rings up where Dan lives and detects. :) Very busy tourist area up there.

Very busy tourist area where I live too but people don't seem to lose as many gold rings, though there are silver rings everywhere I just wish they'd lose more gold. :)

Hit Manly beach this morning at the North Steyne end, ended up with a few bucks, a couple of sixpence, couple of pennies and a silver ring, not sure if the stones are resin or actual stones, bit of a weird one, was about a foot down. The goldies are from 2 hunts. Got a British 1 pound coin as well. :)
