Ok let's put all the clues together

I am a Scots born explorer
I also explored in South America
In my later years I was involved in pearling, whaling, trading and "black birding"
There is a small riverside town in SA named after me
I died in 1879 in New Guinea
Most of my explorations were on rivers
My initials are FC

Francis Cadell. The town of Cadell being just east of Morgan. Expelled from WA for mistreating aborigines and keeping them on Barrow Island. Murdered by the cook's mate - couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy. Strange who we name places after (I once lived in a city where the main street was still Hermann Goering Strasse 30 years after ww2)..
