No mate not Strzelecki

I was part of the Victorian legislature a year after my find. My find was kept under wraps however .

GT :)

Gidday Reefer,

Good get mate, right name wrong year but that's close enough. Your go mate.

In March 1850 pastoralist William Campbell found several minute pieces of native gold in quartz on the station of Donald Cameron at Clunes. William Campbell is notable as having been the first member of the electoral district of Loddon of the Victorian Legislative Council from November 1851 to May 1854. Campbell was in 1854 to receive a 1,000 reward from the Victorian Gold Discovery Committee as the original discoverer of gold at Clunes.[11] At the time of the find in March 1850 Campbell was in the company of Donald Cameron, Cameron's superintendent, and a friend. This find was concealed at the time lest it should bring undesirable strangers to the run.

I .was the first to look upon this verdant green valley. I settled in Sydney in 1802....Who am I..and...what is the name of the valley?

thats him!...however..the 2nd part of the question refers to his being the first to enter the Lachlan valley in 1815..which he named Oxley Plains after his boss at the time...the eminent surveyor -general.. JOHN OXLEY... but well done Doug..you nailed him down quick smart!

Hey Reefer, according to wikipedia the Kangaroo Valley was first sighted by a white fellow (George William Evans) in April 1812 and described it as "no painter could beautify". The bloke certainly got around.

Going out for breakfast with my son for his 21st birthday so I will post a question later this morning.

Cheers

Doug

Hi folks,

This will probably be too easy but here goes,

"Officially opened in 1912, in the downturn it was used to manufacture items like dental picks, golf club heads and pencil sharpeners to name a few but my main line of manufacturing was totally different. What am I"

Cheers :D

Thanks Rockhunter62  Lithgow is the birthplace of my dad..well Hartley Vale in fact but at the onset of the great war my grandad, a watchmaker, miner and jeweler, was employed at the factory as a rifle sites installer and timekeeper :p ,i recalled that the factory was only recently established at the time and your hint of 1912...ticked all the boxes in the dark and dusty annals of my mind

Well fella's..It's always been my understanding that governments primary role should be," the fair and equitable distribution of the nations wealth"...but thats just one of my gripes with the powers that be! So at the risk of creating a riot amongst the masses about the state of our Democracy..
On what for (4) Principals is our Democracy based.? GO FOR IT spin

Hey Reefer, I could only find the following 4 which relate to liberal democracy in australia:

1. A belief in the individual, based on the idea that the individual is both moral and rational
2. A belief in REASON and PROGRESS, based on the belief that growth and development are the natural conditions of mankind, with politics the art of compromise
3. A consensual theory of society, based on the belief that society is a kind of mutual benefit association, based on the desire for order and co-operation, rather than disorder and conflict
4. A suspicion of concentrated forms of power, whether by individuals, groups or governments

Hope that is what you are looking for. :)

Cheers

Doug
