A great day out with Rocket and Heatho. Thanks guys. Heath thought that the Dues might find some pre decs in the trashy area that his CTX missed but he didn't miss much at all. He left plenty of BBs though and his ability to call them before we dug them was spot on. He sure knows how to drive that CTX.
My oldest coin of the looks like a 190? half penny.

Even though it is thrashed, my best find is the Elfin, silver thimble. Bucket lister for me. A bit of a rarity and here is a little info on it.....

The ELFIN thimble is an Australian thimble made only in the 1940s and are rare and difficult to find. The ELFIN has the name ELFIN stamped on the wide band and STG. SIL. in a lozenge on the reverse along with a 5 for the size. The ELFIN has been found in 5 sizes, 2 to 6 which is the smallest and 2 the largest. The smaller sizes, such as the 5 and 6 are much harder to find of these rare thimbles. The ELFIN design has five to six rows of stylized half daisies or the better known emu footprints.

I've posted a pic of one in nice condition.

Top work Rod, looks like you had plenty of targets to keep you busy - hard enough trying to find an intact thimble netherlone a silver one, nice one.

Poor florin copped it, at least you will never know whether it was from 1947. ;)

Queen Lizzy on the back narrows the date a bit. :D

peek'a'boo ]:D

That thimble really had some weight to it as well, it's not thin metal, amazing that it is actually solid silver, great find that one. I had a great morning catching up, I'll have to get up to Newcastle sometime soon for a hunt .

Seems that wasn't the other half of that florin either, hmmm might be another 2 half florries floating around somewhere down there. :)

Was great to catch up Heath. Yes the thimble is heavy. I'll put it on the scales and see what it weighs.

That Thimble is a great find RJ and I can remember my mum darning socks or making new covers for the camp stretchers out of potato sacks. The material (sack cloth) was so heavy that she had to push the bagging needle through using a thimble. Must have a look and see if I still have them.
