It must be great to out so far and see all the pioneering memorabilia. I don't suppose you took the detector out for a sniff, that's if you're allowed to.

I believe that a grandstand was built at 'The Island' in the heyday so that the townspeople could witness the huge gold coming out of the claim.
The tenements around the explosive shed and the island are active right now ...I am keeping watch. :drooling: :drooling: :drooling:

When i did have the opportunity to detect both spots i rarely went home empty handed.

Went to Nelson Via Port Fairy last weekend. Last time I was in Nelson was about 1976 and you had to walk over the dunes to get to the beach. Now there is a nice path there. I did not swim in the ocean beach as there are no lifeguards. I remember all those years ago staying on a site for 10 days on the Glenelg river and swimming in that ocean every day. Freaking hell...the things you do as a kid.
I went up to my knees this time
Put one foot over the border as well.. :p

I used to work there too, not much scenery, but plenty of flies hahaha.
Hope you didn't take the test rocket back to site, or throw rocks at it to see if it's still live

That must have been a while back, the open cut is finished now, all underground waste goes back in the pit.
A lot of the dongas are gone too, they've gone to Carrapatina mine.

Hi GPX5000,
I was there from the start of construction through to the first ore being shipped 4 1/2 years, overseen the construction of the powerlines, borefields and camp accommodation also the PowerStation. Enjoyed the whole time I was there.
