Hi Guys, Thinking about taking the wife and kids up to Mortlake for a go at this olivine bomb fossicking.

Anyone been there lately? Do you need a licence or what? anyone got an pictures of finds?

Thanks

James

Thanks Brett! Didn't know that the fossicking was available on saturday as well as friday!

we went up to mortlake on the weekend, and the kids had a great time! Didn't find much more than green sand and some nice little anorthoclase crystals, but did grab a couple to break up when we got home.

Glad we did cos this is what we found in one of the more bomb like pieces:

All in the same rock, and about 6 times bigger than anything else we found. Also a really cool colour.

SO yeah pretty stoked to go back and have another "crack" at it :)

you can find some nice Peridot in the olivine bombs , a mate smashed up hundreds 20 years ago and got some nice pieces , most were flawed but he had a good sized one cut and made into a ring for his then missus
thanks , Brett .

Yeah they look like they are a nice honey color, I'd really like to get one cut and make it into a pendant for the wife, but not sure how to go about it.

These came out of a volcanic bomb, much different to the olivine bombs. Should have taken a picture before i broke it up(fortunately very gently).
