Just heard the family have announced he was found deceased an hour ago, not sure of the circumstances but sad to hear about the outcome.

The Davies family, two adults and four children from Bunyip have not returned from a trip,
possibly in high country Abefeldy, where they had gone camping and were due back on the 6th of July.

guessing this is the same family , looks like they got bogged in , which is what I thought and was hoping is all that happened , or some sort of mechanical breakage .

Police have managed to make contact with a family of six who have been bogged in bushland north of Maffra since Wednesday.
The family were due to return from a week-long camping trip to the Avon Wilderness Area on Wednesday, however did not return when expected.
Police spoke to the 34-year-old father this morning, who advised the groups car had become bogged on the Avon Track on Wednesday.
Unable to call for assistance due to the lack of mobile reception, and trapped by flooded waterways, the group was unable to seek help.
This morning the father has managed to climb to higher ground where he had enough phone reception for the call from police to be received.
All family members the father, 36-year-old woman, 12-year-old girl, 10-year-old girl, 8-year-old boy and 2-year-old boy are not injured.
Police are planning to airlift the family from the area however are waiting for fog to clear.
The family are well equipped with food, water and warm clothing to await rescue.

It was believed that they had an EPIRB - would have made sense to fire that off?

Obviously this family were well prepared, no injuries so it didn't warrant EPIRB activation.
An EPIRB activation would have resulted in an earlier exact area rescue, and not a wide area search and multiple press releases as resulted. The family will still be air lifted out, so would have happened faster, with less cost and anxiety on family/friends if they had let off their EPIRB. Pride only IMO.Nightjar said:
