Most creeks are shallow to waste deep dry most of the time wet when it rains. I was thinking the crystals was just quartz with some smokey heads on them .. Some nice clear ones around. Red bluff to speewah and even on the coastal side of black mountain rd is crystal n topaz country. Joys of being a wanderer ay..

Hi everyone,

Not looking to take anyone's spot, just looking to take the kids panning for a bit of color (and maybe set up the mini sluice for an hour or so to have a scratch around)

Would there be anywhere around the Cairns area (within an hour or so drive) that would be worth a trip to get a few specks?

Gday Jayell,
Drop into the Miners den on anderson st next saturday 1st of august, were having our monthly meeting open to all. We meet around 9am for a cuppa and buscuit and are usually there till about midday.
This week we are have an amateur panning comp, see the thread https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=12735
Hope to see you there, maybe we can steer you in the right direction for a good day out with the family.

Chlosey river either side of the hi way and the hills, chlosey river rd after first crossing all gullies running in to the river worth a look. Heard lads found half a ounce, Bolton rd KOAH, chlosey river. Was told the sand that is deposited on the road after floods worth sluicing ..

Thanks Bushman Rod, we have friends that live down Koah way so it will be a good excuse to take the family down :)

Thanks Matt we are not up there yet at Port Macquarie at the moment then going to Gympie should be in Cairns in about 7 days

If you coming up highway 1 you will also go straight past Minersden in Underwood Qld on the Bruce Highway :Y:
