I think meta has done his research PP.

newest item 2 years old, he claims, still going strong.

Quote..." I saved a small fortune by doing my research".

Legality is not the debate. The debate is about the detector being the same or a knock-off ;)

Cheers
Which was exactly my point about doing the research, a lot of items you can get good information on but the direct Chinese counterfeits/knock off/reproduction items like this detector just use random jargon with direct copied text from the original source to hopefully pull the wool over an unsuspecting customer that's hoping for a bargain.

I'm actually agreeing with Meta about his post (it may have come across wrong) but just pointing out that good research = good bargain item, bad research = good chance of getting ripped off.

That's great to hear but at the end of the day it all comes back to doing your research on a particular product or item, I'm not knocking all Chinese products at almost everything nowadays comes from there, it's just their knock off with certain items that leave a lot to be desired, and prosecuted for.

My point entirely Pete, if you read my post i did point out that you must do your research and buy smart!

Not every copy is a good one for sure, but i did mine and hasn't bit me on the arse yet mate! Touch wood.

@Retirement stone....maybe you could change your nick to 'Retirement Gone' from Minelab marketing.

Where are the posts of your world beating finds mate?

Quack Quack!

All good guys, been a big day in the hot sun painting on a ladder and even I'm starting to struggle to understand what I meant, but yeah was basically just agreeing you your comments, think I'll make this my last JD, then a strong coffee so I can find my bed

Yes I agree ol mate . lots a hot wind, personal opinions, speculation and no proof.

a VLF that cant pickup a horseshoe?, or a PI that's infringing upon copyright?, please clarify? :p

I don't think a review from a store that sells Minelab, Garret or Whites etc would be a fair and impartial review.

Until you see the proof its all opinion. I don't need to remind you of what they say about those.

I would not recommend people buy these unless they have done their homework, with which I have no interest other than the facts of the matter.

Whilst they may be junk, they also may be not. We don't know fore sure? There would be squillions of these things out there all from different assemblers.

I wouldnt take a friend of a friend as gospel on anything.

That's my point. ;)

Cheers
No proof? I have enough - I know a fulltime prospector thats pulled one apart. His description - slightly better than a rubber band arrangement & definitely nothing in there at all similar to a GPX. That's all I need but there's plenty more proof out there.
A VLF that can't pick up a horseshoe? - Some have been reported as not being able to, some work fine as their VLF innards should. Not a $2k VLF though.
A PI infringing on copyright? - No one can clarify this as no one can/has/will provide or produce one that is even reportedly the same. All reports & known dissections have revealed no working PI technology in these machines. Possible? Maybe but doubtful & even more doubtful it would work as well?
If someone has one & thinks it performs as well as a GPX I will arrange a comparison. To make it interesting we could wager the price of a new Jupiter
The Chinese must have removed some flaws in Minelabs design also. Some switches that should be 3 position are only 2 position on the Chinelabs. Must not need that extra function

I was hoping someone would post some links showing a few different types of the Chinese copy's and or models, only info I've been able to find is provided to protect minelab sales. I was given a fake husqvarna xp chainsaw a couple of years ago and unless I check the serial numbers I can't tell witch ones the fake among my saws, they all got rebuilt last year with the same parts.

I never expected rolls Royce class at Vw price but Porsche performance at Nissan price I'll take all day :D

There are probably more but this gives a bit of an idea. Many manufacturers and many prices. Do they all have VLF internals, I seriously doubt it otherwise Minelab wouldn't be making such a fuss. It would be easy for them to post a video on youtube comparing the internals of these detectors and compare them with their own but I can't find any. In fact I can't find too many complaints about the fakes on line at all, most google searches just come back to this site. Minelab themselves have said that the Chinese are expert at reverse engineering which is no secret and they have also said the copies are of varying quality. I can't find anywhere that Minelab have said they all have VLF internals.

I personally would not buy one but I am not that naive as to think the Chinese couldn't copy a PI detector if they wanted to.

Some simple research will trace the tracks from Minelab back to China.

Whilst they boast manufacturing facilities worldwide, they have 3 mega manufacturing facilities in China ( workers live on site at some of these large setups, no FIFO :))

Something tells me they do not just make the hand grips here :p

Minelab is owned by Codan Group who contracts manufacture to Plexus.

That's how they get the components to build "Fake", detectors.

My claims are not that of an equal product, as the many backyarder assemblers will vary greatly in quality.

It would appear to me that the majority of components are, "Made in China" ( not that there's anything wrong with that ;) )

Don't stress mbasko, I am sure yours was made in the Malaysian factory. :p

Cheers

Buy one & take me up on the comparison + side wager. Easiest money I'll make.

I don't understand your infatuation with sub standard Chinese detectors. You already have a TDI - that's a better alternative that doesn't offer the same performance as Minelab already. No need for a Chinelab lookalike

Just a few examples from thousands of rip off detectors and pinpointers on Alibaba. Make of it what you will.

true Goldpick. Is littered with them.

Minelab list over 40 counterfeit manufacturers and/or dealers.

Hopefully this will to bring manufacturing back to our shores, even though we like the cheap clothes, TV's etc. ;)

The complaints are out there if you want to find them. Ask some dealers who have had people take them in with issues only to find they've got a fake not an issue - just junk. Likewise you say you can't find complaints, I can't find anyone that has purchased one & is happily finding gold with it.
Neither can I find any solid evidence from the counterfeiters that they are producing PI machines. A couple of the fake sellers on eBay that I have pressed end up admitting themselves that they are VLF & only a copy/fake not a reproduction with the same performance.
Like I keep saying - someone buy one & prove me wrong. I will wear the egg on my face but after doing my own research & trusting the word of soneone thats actually pulled on apart I reckon I'll remain egg free at this stage

Not so much an infatuation mbasko, its just that we love to rev up the GPX5000 boys, they bite Better than Barra!

I have a lot of great detecting mates who own the GPX's and its always a great campfire debate which i enjoy thoroughly.

They dont necessarily find more gold than I do with my GMT? (or puss box VLF as they call it). The GPX's are a great high end detector no doubt, but i fail to believe they are 4k better than a TDI pulse induction.

Have gone through our patches many times after my superman mates have with their GPX's and found gold that they have missed!

Always give them grief about it back at camp, I tell them with the money i saved buying a Whites i took the missus to Fiji on a holiday.....now she lets me go detecting whenever i wish. lol

Minelab owners are always the first and loudest to voice their opinions.....and its usually misguided!

If a Chinelab found gold in a fairdinkum (not set up) search would you admit you were wrong?

You know they will want 10k for a 7000 jupiter dont you!

Cheers mate ;)

Good for you M. good to see a bit of balance. I guess if you pay about $6500 retail for a tecta, you want to believe it's the best. For the record, I don't bash any brand or model, of tecta. I believe they are all sub- standard in today's technology and way overpriced for their component content and manufacture. this standard would never be acceptable in any other electronic product.
