the Bus is a long tie project so far has a bathroom double bed 4 wardrobes full kitchen and a lounge room but still has a fair way to go

Repurposed my Ducati bike stand tubing (sold the Duke ages ago), and a 9 piece of 8mm leaf spring.

Gotta love that old leaf spring steel.. I reckon this is the heaviest duty pick for its size (20 handle) I have made.

The hardest part was getting the rubber grip on around that curved end. :mad:
Wont be easy losing this colour one.. :Y:

Cast isnt hard to weld. Use cast rods. Heat the metal first then weld it but, Do Not let it cool very quickly at all. Wrap it in something like welding gloves and cover with a bag or put it in lime or sand and let it cool for at least 15 minutes. If it is a thick piece you should peen it, meaning tapping it with an engineers hammer on the welds using the rounded part and then very gradually cooling it.
But I could be wrong :)
Galv grind off the galv and weld it. Fumes are really nasty. Just ask me.

400 - 500 Celsius preheat , and maintain that heat during welding .

Guys who do cast iron professionally ( not many left ) will use ovens that run continuously , they will bring the items up to welding temp and keep putting it back in the oven to maintain it during welding before dropping it into clean lime for a 12 - 16 hour cool down phase.

Cast iron is the biggest Mongrel thing to weld because the quality and content varies enormously , some grades will never be weldable successfully and others can be with the right care.

AC TIG can be used on many grades where stick electrode might fail , I was taught to use around 130 Hz on AC as being more successful than the typical 50 Hz machines , and from memory a consumable with a little phosphor bronze content improves fusion , having said that , the filler wire I found most successful is no longer available 8.(

Regarding Galv , as you said to grind it off with a flapper disc or burn it off with Oxy torch first as zinc is a contaminant if mixed into a weld metal.
Satincraft electrodes handle galvanised environments better , or silicon bronze mig wire is better still , in fact thats the approved product for welding modern car chassis which have zinc plated chassis and body panels.

Well not me but my young bloke Charlie made these fishing lures from scratch. Everything apart from the treble hook's Charlie created and painted :Y:. These are his first two that will remain as ornaments but also served the purpose of a successful experiment of testing his skills, not to bad for a 14 year old :Y: Mum and Dad are proud :).
