Can't see a date on the florin yet.How do you guy's think the best way to clean it would be,I was going to put it in a cab tonight and see how it goes????

Maybe try the aluminum foil trick, I think it was citric acid liquid then wrap it in foil and squeeze between your fingers, It looks like it will have nice detail underneath,
Nice going :)

Top find, I'm pretty jel of that florin. :)

Yeah as B5MECH said. Soak in Citric acid solution for about 5 mins then wrap it tightly in foil, you'll notice it get warm to the touch and will make a bit of a crackling sound, this is the reaction taking place, next you'll noticed a rotten egg gas smell and the foil will start to desintegrate. After the reaction has taken place, roughly 5 minutes then un-wrap it and rub with bi-carb to shine it up and neutralise the acid.

The 1884 shilling I found the other week came up shiny after doing this, it was black from oxidisation when found.

Hope it works nicely.

Again, what a find, well done. :)

Cheers Heatho.Yeah I was stoked when I found it.
I just put it in the citric acid. Will post some pic's when it's done...

Looking forward to the pics mate, hope it cleans up easilly. I had a coin where I needed to repeat the process. It came up nice after the second go at it.

Done a bit of study on it,it's a gothic florin minted from 1851-1886.The date on the gothic florin is in roman numerals it reads mdcccliii which is 1853.(Used a loupe to read the date)My oldest coin :D Gave it a clean and it cleaned up pretty good but it's quite worn the head side is toasted but the other side isn't to bad...had a better look at the date now I think it's mdcccliiiv so 1858

Well done on the Gothic Florin, ripper of a coin. I think that's only the third one we've seen on the forum, they are pretty rare to find in any sort of condition. :)

This is the one we found last year in excellent condition: https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=191081#p191081
Cheers fella's.Yeah GP the Gothic Florin takes pride of place in my collection :D Not as good as the one Mrs Goldpick found though, that one's a cracker
