For this to come up now.

A few days ago there was a drone in our backyard watching two of the girls unloading the washing line,
they didn't notice it straight away, and even then didnt tell me.

If they had, it would have been a serious problem for the owner of it.

100%, although if you have a repl and reoc the rules are different. It would be an offence to shoot down a drone though goody, they are considered aircracft by casa.

First they'd have to report that they were flying where they shouldn't and be libel for a hefty fine I would think the loss of a drone would be cheaper than a fine IMO
I had one buzzing around my old place a few years ago. went inside and walked out with the 12G and never seen it again. Wife wasn't impressed with me but it got rid of the rowdy bloody thing.
