NSW Forest Closures

Hi Everyone,
I am new to Australia and am looking to start panning for gold but have discovered that pretty much all state forests are closed due to the bush fires. Is it normal for so many forests to be closed at this time of the year or is this a reflection on how bad this season has been for the fires? I have been keeping an eye on the weather forecasts but I don't know how much rain is actually needed to help improve the situation.

My thoughts go out to anyone affected by the fires. I hope you all stay safe.

Some of us are also waiting for the situation to settle before going on planed trips.
The fires have put a lot of things on hold.
