Pretty new to this but have been doing a little sampling and a fair amount of research.
Primarily interested in placer and in particular flour and micro particle gold.
Cheers

Thanks mate. Combing through the forums now. Up to 'a' for alluvial, and the theory about bacteria making nuggets.

Hey, what's a ?detector ?

Cheers

I'm not too far from Casino in northern NSW. The ranges aren't too far, but I guess that's the case for most folks in Australia lolol.

How to catch the stuff? Ha! Samples I have been taking don't seem to be lacking in superfine stuff, unless it's just mica (or whatever), but it's so fine that it's way too hard to pan-out. So, I've just been bringing back samples until I can work out how to process things efficiently.

I've also been mucking around prototyping some hand-held 'sniping' devices, but it's working out a way to process the superfine stuff that I'm really interested in.

Where are you , and what's your modus operandi (method of operation), if you don't mind me asking?

Gday Mike

There is panning Gold at Drake

If you google Drake Goldfields , should be some info.

Thanks. I have taken samples around Drake, but there's nothing spectacular I could find.
Ever checked the Coffs area? It's damned near ALL yellow, but well buried by the looks of things.

People used to use highbankers in NSW but some kid in a govt department decided to ban water pumps coz they thought it sounded like a trendy yuppie thing to do.

I heard a rumour that they are a bit confused now coz they realised they stuffed up.

That leaves you with a pan or a river sluice .until govt reverses it

You can watch a YouTube video to see how a river sluice works , and if you have enough water flow to support its use.

I didnt get up that way recently .

Ha ha ha! I can think of lots of 'trendy yuppie' things to do which should be punishable by subjecting the culprits to even worse 'trendy yuppie' stuff, but banning an activity like high-banking (unless it's done really, REALLY stupidly), is certainly not one of them. lololol Why DO we pay these people to mess stuff up? lolololol

Hi, Flowerpot.
I like rocks and gems and crystals and stuff too, but I know bugger all about them. That's why I focus on gold. But I've come across a lot of stuff in rivers that looks really pretty! I might bring some back next time and see what someone who knows these things reckons.

Google search for identifying Australian genstones and put the photos / descriptions in your phone so you dont break the springs in your car bringing back rocks that are not worth anything .

Familiarise yourself with the many different forms and colours of sapphire out there , on rare occasions there are some very valuable ones found.

Ha ha ha! That's a very good idea! It's a tough set of wheels, but even if I don't break the springs it might wind up like the Queen Mary and I might just plough through down a gully instead of making a bend. Getting moving on inclines might be a bit tricky too!
I'll follow your suggestion right now!
Cheers,
Mike :)
