Hi there!

So I have always loved fossicking since I was introduced at a young age. I am interested in looking for what ever I may find! I had a poke around at Britannia creek 3 weeks ago and had some great finds including Citrine, Quartz and a suspected Topaz. Since then I have been out both the following weekends, I remembered being told when I was younger about a spot near powelltown so I eventually found it by 5:30pm, the head torches came out for a couple of hours of poking through the Ada River and we were stoked with our finds, Black Tormaline, Citrine and Quartz. Had another go in the same place yesterday and found some great Smokey Quartz crystals, amazing Lyre Birds singing and dancing around which really made the afternoon :)

The area here seemed to be really Dug out I am guessing a lot of people go fossicking here?

I would like to go out fossicking with other people in the area and learn everything there is to know as I don't really have any knowledge on the subject, just the interest :)

Cheers guys! I would love to join the local club! I am just in the process of moving out of the city so hopefully I am in Yarra Junction by the weekend, cannot wait to get back to the country!

Would be great to catch up and go for a fossick some time, I just bought a couple of proper sieves so those guys need some testing out.

Here are some of the finds :)

Nice work on the finds mate, is that a carnelean at the top right of photo 1? Which one is the suspect topaz?
Ill come out for a dig, from what I know, this weekend I'm out at a forum member meet up in warrandyte but around or after it am available.

Once you get 10 posts on the forum I can pm you some details for meetup, and ill also introduce you to the y.j club when you move down. :)

Cheers! I don't have much knowledge in this area at all, so really I was just going by colour on my guess ID's. The one I was hoping was Topaz is the really vibrant glowing white one near the Centre?

Awesome! Hopefully I get some time myself, might be a bit hectic moving. Do you prospect/Fossick in meet ups?

Okay brilliant I will get some posting done then, cheers :)

Thanks Scrounger!

The meetup on its way is gold specific mostly, but I fossick all minerals, metals and gemstones all around the area, sometimes phillip island / south coast as well for olivine or random xenoliths of calcites and chalcedony
Mabey a topaz, hard to see..squinting distance

I saw that you have been out to Kitty Miller Bay fossicking, I was just out there the other week snorkeling, had no idea. Ah so much to learn!

I'll show you in person probably be a better view hey. So moving houses ended up being a bigger job than I expected, I will be doing that again for today as well..

Have you been up around Tanjil Bren before?

Yes mate, its cold over at tanjil but been there yep

Sounds like a big move mate! Ill be happy to show you about the island, still trying to find good stuff there, but its there ;) I have some various crystals from down there. Where are yoi moving from?

Hah yeah I can imagine it would be, well digging always keeps you warm! I was thinking about checking out the crystal pits sometime, sound really interesting.

Awesome! What have been the target and top finds there?

I moved from Mount Waverley and am absolutely loving being out of the city!

Varials crystals but I mostly enjoy chasing little cavity pockets or looking for volcanic vent remains is usually a nice rare find, usually peridot and olivine. It would have most likely broken off the vents above the blowhole now covered by the overhanging scrub.

I've had some small citrine crystals or small plates of it appear, mostly got chalcedonys and calcites last time, some agates. Have a book which explains the whole geology down there. Nothing big, but usually interesting :)

Havnt been to the pits yet myself so one day I'm up for that as well

I would be absolutely wrapped finding any of those! Peridot would be a beautiful find. Have you cut any of these?
Old books hold a lot of info you just can't find on the Internet hey!
When would you be going out there next?

Sweet! Well I am thinking about asking for next Friday off work for the crystal pots as I will be going up to Mount Baw Baw for some Lead Beater's work over Saturday and Sunday. Just need to see if I can get it off!

Not a cutter really no, have a cheap faceting machine but not accurate but good to learn from. I havnt personally found many cutters but topaz and quarts varieties mostly, but I'm happy with any sort of find. Out to phillip island? Getting little bit cold but still possible, gotta time the tides correctly as well for better chance of finds.

Would do the job for experimenting!
Just some of the more water worn pieces look to be nice and clear through out, would like to know if people tumble or cut Quartz pieces like this? I imagine they would look even more brilliant once they are clearer.

That's right, I still like making things from quartz, I don't find it boring at all. I gotta have a go at carving a skull sometime :) replied to ur pm as well
You can always make something :)

Carving some things would be awesome, my partner is really interested in making jewelry. I could only cut the roughed river ones though the crystals have already done the amazing work themselves :)
