Hello,

I am approaching the end of my 2nd Year of a Geology Degree in the UK. I am interested in mining and very keen to learn more about both large and small scale gold mining. I am hard working and keen to learn the ropes. I would prefer paid or subsidised work, however I would volunteer for the right person/company. I have had a good theoretical education regarding mining, but really want to gain some practical skills and experience from real miners/prospectors.

I am available from the 1st June - 30th September 2017 (subject to visas). If anyone has any tips or advice on how I can gain experience in mining/prospecting I would be very grateful!

Regards,

Jack

Gday Jack - most if not all large scale miners in Australia offer internships for vacation work experience. You would need to apply direct with companies such as Newmont http://www.newmont.com/careers/students-and-new-graduates/default.aspx or Evolution http://evolutionmining.com.au/graduate-vacation-programs/
I work for one of the big miners but unfortunately the programs for us & likely many others would now be closed. There's no harm in doing some online searching & contacting them about doing something directly. In fact some of them may look favourably at someone willing to travel here to gain experience & set something up to suit your timeline.
There is a couple of small scale operators that check in from time to time. Hopefully one of them can give you some pointers in that area or even suggest something directly.
Good luck with it.
