If I remember correctly around ten minutes north of Clunes is a small hilly area on the right side of the road in the Dunach Forrest area. It's the Ballarat Marybough
Rd (C278). If you look on the map and find Quartz Rd you will see the junction at Dunach. Head back a little way and you'll find tracks on the side of the road. Be aware that there are private weekend properties there so keep an eye out for fence lines. I spoke to a land owner and he said he's found a little gold in the creek line (on his property) that runs into Quartz Rd. That's why I suggest the tracks off the C287.
