At the end of the day lots of people have been burnt buying later model detectors on Ebay, as you cant see them in person its really hard to determine from grainy pictures if the detector is an authentic one or not, in some cases you can tell the duds as there are tell tail signs in the way the detector looks coloration of the paint and style of the fittings and so on, also if they have security stickers and serial numbers that is still no insurance that you are buying a genuine machine either as they have also been faked as well.
Early run models of the gpx's didn't have any security stickers so the only thing you can go by is the serial number and that it matches up with a purchase receipt, personally I think anyone is taking a huge gamble buying any detector sight unseen, far better doing it in person or buying from a dealer outlet, if you are not experienced with these machines its even an option to see if you can get the opinion of someone who is before you buy.
One of the worst things is that when people buy a dud detector and find out it is a dud they don't destroy it or chuck it away they just on sell it to another bunny, and so on.
