Too hard or too criptic?
It's a classic Australian movie who's main actor (born in 1909) was refered to as "a living symbol of a typical Australian"

Name the actor or the movie.

Spot on Manpa!

The movie was Smiley gets a gun.

Smiley had to do 8 good deeds.
For each good deed he'd get a "nick" on a tree. When he got 8 nicks he would be rewarded with a gun from the local Sergeant played by "Chips" Rafferty.

Smiley was accused of stealing some gold and ended up running away. In the end he helped find the real thief and was finally awarded his gun.

No to all again, performed may be the wrong word, appeared may be better.

I also house a comprehensive library which contains many rare books. There also is some conflicting reports as to the year of construction, 1852 or 1858
