In April/May 1918 HMAS AUSTRALIA was involved in a successful experiment .(the first world wide).
What was this experiment which changed warfare at sea & the name of the equipment that facilitated this experiment.

This particular battleship had a number of firsts in its short life.
However I think What you may be referring to was the building of two platforms being fitted and the equipment that facilitated the building of the platforms were Two Sopworth Airplanes used to fly of the Battleship.
A Sopworth 1 1/2 Strutter was the first to fly off on 4 April 1918. the other was a Sopworth Pup.
