Didn't put much heart into today's hunt, the legs weren't really up to climbing over fallen branches to try and get to bare patches of ground. Nethertheless, I hit this same house site https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=352219#p352219 and managed another larger British Military button from a different manufacturer (Smith & Wright - Birmingham). Also found a mother of pearl gilt cufflink marked LOCKFA Pat, some oil lamp parts, and an extremely heavy base from a clothes iron (thank god for lightweight irons).

Should get out on the weekend, still waiting for the Racecourse property owner to return home. :)

The badge was actually from a fridge, had me guessing at the time. :D

I think the button is a beauty too :Y:
Ive found a few of those old irons myself.
I made up new handles for them, give them a coat of flat black... they make great door stoppers
Or just as ornaments ;)

Been a bit quiet lately with all the crappy weather down here, although today I met a guy at work who opened up a whole raft of permissions to chase up. Turns out he has a whole lot of farmer mates who were thinking about getting someone to detect their properties to see what turns up, with one of them owning land with an 1800's pub, and several old house sites. Will probably head up there over the weekend to see what they have on offer. Here's hoping they might have some really good finds, as I doubt whether they have even seen a detector before.

Mate I can only offer you the best of luck right now and hope you get onto some awesome properties and get some nice relics, coins.... Cheers ATB GDA :Y:

Those types of sites and you on the detector should make for an epic tale. Looking forward to seeing what PA's master relic hunter unearths, could we see the elusive Sov? . Sounds like you don't need much luck GP but good luck all the same, I hope you get some ripper finds.

I was thinking the same thing, I just didn't want to say it but I had one pictured in my mind. :) :Y:

Didn't get out to check out the new permissions as yet, though did get back onto an old sawmill site today thanks to the glorious weather. Today I concentrated on detecting areas previously overlooked, mainly in and around fallen trees and branches to see if any good signals remain. Just ran the Deus on 14kHz (HF coil), though recovery dropped down to 2.5 to improve the depth response considering I had a fair bit of ground cover to punch through.

That seemed to do the job, with the first good target being a 1901 Veilhead Victorian threepence, ringing up loud and clean at the base of a fallen tree. Pretty much all of the best targets came from a reasonably small area, I'm guessing it was the location of the actual sawmill residence - two SA dog tags dated 1913-14, and 1914-15, a 1900 Boer War Peace medal (school issue), and a pre-federation South Australian Rifles button.

All up a very enjoyable if not tiring day. ;)

The threepence came from the base of this tree

nice hunt mate, you would be tired!! thats a lot of retrievals

Certainly was a lot of targets, I got real sick of digging those damned tarpaulin loops and shotgun shells (threw most of them in the bin) - got to dig it all if you want the cool relics. Shotgun shells are the worse, they read anything from low 50's all the way up to low 80's, depending on condition and orientation in the ground.

That peace medal is a beauty. Even your carcass picking makes for great hunting!
Those tarp rings are everywhere, and nearly always ring up the same as $2 or $1 coins on the ovals
