Finally got onto my new permission today, conditions were wet and muddy, with zero degree temps not helping either. Upon arriving at the site, we were told that a house used to exist in an open paddock, with only a derelict shed and bathhouse remaining. I was running the trusty Deus with the HF 9" coil and running the HOT program, whilst Mrs Goldpick took her Teknetics G2 and 13" Detech Ultimate coil.
After a few awkward minutes of trying to climb through a fence loaded up with detecting gear, we realised the fence was only 20 metres long, and we could have simply walked around it - doh! :8
Not knowing what the heck we were going to find, I started off with a flower pendant as my first decent find, and things got pretty busy from there on in. I reckon we only scratched the surface on coin finds, they were all over the place - even in the last five minutes before leaving I pulled a Victorian 1874 penny and 1931 penny from the ground on the way to the car. Relics were everywhere, toy pistols, broaches, buckles, dog tags, horse tack and so on.
One patch next to a pine tree provided at least 10 predecimals, including two florins, sixpence and an early 1900's worn threepence. Across the other side of the paddock there was a patch of decimal coinage thay provided some entertainment for a while (BB's).
We actually ended up with a total of four dog tags, one of which I gave to the property owner along with an early penny for the kid's show and tell.
It really was the most fun I have had in a long time, and as a bonus there is the likelyhood that we will gain permission from another land owner to access and old racecouse, and also an old school site from yet another landowner - apparently neither have been previously detected.
