Action Thread about HighBanking in NSW

There is or was an Outdoors Recreational Party and I voted for them in the last NSW state election. their motto is "Stop The Greens" :) Can't find much about them at the moment so not sure if they still exist. I believe NAPFA is already aligned with the Shooters & Fishers Party. We will never...

SHARPIES of MELBOURNE.. 1970s - THEN & NOW pics

My radio station for many many years right from the test broadcasts before the launch. Still listen sometimes but I've now gone to grown ups ABC 702 I still have a few of the round 2JJ badges they used to give away at the free outdoor concerts. Who remembers the early presenters, George Wayne...

prospecting on the edge of the ocean

Seen heaps of these very wide quartz veins heading out to sea. Generally anywhere there was volcanic activity There is a ripper on the southern headland of Loves Bay just south of Kiama where the coastal walk track starts. Got heaps of quartz rocks and big pebble stones from there for my Nan's...

Using a dredge in Australia for recreational prospecting is illegal - information and questions

Sadly a lot of the problems with greed and people going at it hammer and tong with no regard for rules, regulations or doing the right thing during this current "rush" is due to information being so easily available through the internet and the sudden increase in prospecting forums. It's not...

    Subaru Forester

I know this is an old thread but for what it's worth here's my 5 cents worth. I have owned a number of subaru 4x4's years back (mid 70's thru late 80's) which were very capable off road as they could be raised, larger wheels and AT tyre combos could be fitted and the entry & exit angle was...

    what is this?

You can also find slag at the Tuena common (lower campground) as the whole flat is built up with slag from the Mt Costigan smelter. That is why you can't hammer a bloody tent peg in anywhere :(

    Hand Crevice Sucker Pump

A couple of things I can see and foresee with this. It is a suction device and by all descriptions is a dredge as it uses a separate pump which sucks water and gravel into a storage device and would be illegal to use anywhere in Australia for the purpose of prospecting/ fossicking. You can not...

    Highbankers set up advice

Hi Skip I got ahold of a book some years ago which is a text on Water Flow dynamics. Can't recall the proper title or author right now but will dig it out. I have learned a lot from it. One important thing with the Highbankers I use is you don't have to bend down or shovel up to them. You work...

    Highbankers set up advice

G'day Wal I'd have to disagree a bit with this. The Hex/round Holes in the mats I have always used (common front door mats) are 30mm dia and the Diamond matting each diamond is 30mm x 50mm which is as big as the expanded mesh I sometimes use. I have never had a problem with them clogging up...

    Highbankers set up advice

G'day Shivan, You're right, them old timers sure did not get it all but they still did a pretty good job considering what they had to work with. Their gear was made from bush timber cut rough and the only form of matting they had was hessian which worked well enough. There's still people using...

Quick Build Crevice Tool MK II

I have made most of my crevicing scrapers from 8g & 10g fencing wire or the stuff ceiling fixers use as hangers. It can all be flattened out to form little digging or scraping 'hoes' or ground to a point. I like the idea of the scoop TenOunce Tone is making. Could it be done with thin steel or...

    Highbankers set up advice

This is is a great topic with many passionate opinions on what works best and hopefully it will continue. :) On the topic of the rubber door mats, mainly the honeycomb pattern as its being referred to, it is the closest you will find to what the old timers used in their sluices. Those who...
