thanks guys! Using a gemmasta machine, one of the belts just broke so number two is on hold at the moment. Takes a lot of time and patience but learning a lot with each stone and that's the main thing :-)

My first attempt at faceting! Learnt a lot and it took me a bloody long time but got there in the end?.. There is a massive crack right through the table but I am happy with having made something even close to an acceptable shape! Can only get better from here :-)

Get into it Twapster, it is bloody cold but great fun, nothing like the peace and quiet of Grabben Gullen, saw lotsa kangaroos and the birds there help to make me feel full of life so I can get back into work again. Nothing better than an ice cold stream and some pretty stones to get you back...

Haha you guys are not wrong, it was near freezing ... I did my sieving in the creek because I forgot my tub, it was a silly mistake! I had to take 20-30 second sieves and then let my hands recover because otherwise it got too sore to be under the water! Next time it'd be better to have a metal...

Grabben Gullen finally gave up some rewards for some hard winter fossicking!! Found this nice stone 22 carats as well as two nice five carat greens yesterday. Wally I find the same thing with the coins around my area in Sydney, one side is almost like new and the other is severely corroded and illegible! An amazing phenomenon.

Hi guys, Have spent the last week digging up pull tabs, bottle tops and aluminium cans (or bits of), but finally I've found a spot that yields all of those things, plus some coins! I do not really know what I am doing yet but have enjoyed my morning in the sun looking around.

Nice stones Health, how do you tell if the sapphire is a star before it is cabbed? I am curious as to some pointers as to how to ID rough stars -- have you got before photos of that stone? Cheers mate!

I heard that someone got a 50ct stone from under the bridge a few weeks back, that was a story from a fellow prospector so it could have been trumped up from the 30ct the farmers son mentioned. Varts are most of your sapphires from further north or do you head out to Grabben Gullen too?
