    Shifting rivers

Found this gif on another forum and thought I'd post it here as it's pretty interesting. Really shows how quickly a river can shift over a short period of time (less than 30 years here). Really makes you think how much a river's course could change over millions of years.

    theoretical - $100,000 spend

Hey If you had $100,000 given to you on the proviso that it only be used to look for gold or other rich minerals, how would you spend it? I'm thinking a second hand backhoe might be a good start with a lease somewhere, but I'm interested in hearing what other people's ideas would be on this forum.

    panning technique question

Got asked this today by my wife and I thought I'd ask you guys. If at the end of a pan there's black heavy sand in the bottom, can we assume that that means that if there were gold present then it would have been caught? In other words, are you panning correctly if you're catching black sand...

My Tassie 2 day Bazooka experiment

Took the kids down to the Styx River, just past Gold Creek, yesterday for a fun family day/panning expedition. Took the Bazooka out with me, spent most of the time trying to get it set up right. Fell over in the freezing water and had my waders fill up :/ Was a fun day though. Didn't find a...

    landowner deals

Hey, just wondering. If a landowner lets you prospect on their property but wants a cut if you find anything, what's considered a reasonable %? Cheers

    Howdy from Tas

First time I've been in this forum, thought I better give a shout. I'm a school teacher down here in Tas, itching to find some of that southern yellow stuff :D Been interested in the idea of mining and prospecting for a long time. Heck, I'm even writing a kids' book on it which you can have a...

    turbo pan or Garrett?

Hey, looking to buy a gold pan and am tossing up between the Super Sluice or the Turbo Pan and not sure which to buy (money's getting tight otherwise I'd just grab both). Going to be using it in conjunction with the Bazooka if that changes anything. I'm really interested in the Turbo Pan...

    Finding new gold

Hey I know I'm living up to my newb tag here but thought I'd ask this (although I think I know the answer). I was wondering if all the location of gold in Aus has already been found or if it's possible that new places will be found. So, from my perspective, coming from Tas, it seems like there...

A lot of silvery flecks in bottom of pan

Hey guys, sorry for the newbie post :) Thought I'd test out my home built sluice box with a bucket of stuff I dug out of the Tyenna here in Tas. The sluice worked well (popped some lead sinkers in the bucket and it caught them all). On clean up, I didn't find any gold, but there's a lot of...

    Bazooka Gold Trap Sluice Boxes

Hey guys Was looking into buying one of these of the BGT site. Went to put in the order then found out that postage to Aus would come in at over $500 for the 36" Prospector (which is about 2.5 times the price of the sluice). Is there anywhere in Aus that stock these? Cheers

Tasmanian prospecting licence. Some good some bad news.

Hey Been interested in the idea of prospecting for a while now down here in Tas. Had a couple of questions regarding the rules and regulations. The TAS MRT site states: Only hand prospecting for material is allowed and only hand-held tools may be used. The use of mechanical machinery or any...
