Hey guys i am looking at getting into prospecting, just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction in regards to a good gem identification book. Also a list of required tools so i dont forget anything, appreciate any help cheers

Check out your local library or visiting a lapidary club is a good start for books and equipment ideas.
There is also post somewhere here on gear, probably in the Equipment posts.

'How & Where to Find Gemstones in Australia & New Zealand' ed Bill Myatt is a old book but a good one.
'Gemstones & Minerals of Australia' by Lin Sutherland & Gayle Webb is newer and good for identification.

Nature guide Rocks and Minerals or Rock and Gem, got both at Dymocks from memory.

Just brought Gemstones of the world by Walter Schumann from' Aussie Sapphire ' OVER 1900 PHOTO'S , amazing detailed descriptions and detailed info ,you won't be dissapointed.
