Any difference between flat wound and spiral wound?

Now I am confused. In simple terms, what is the difference between a "flat" wound coil, and a "spiral" wound
coil? I am about to choose either a 14x9 NF evolution, or a 16 round CT Elite.

Will run it on 4000 with Li polymer wifi unit and booster. Using NF 12 round advantage at present .

Spiral or flat is the same thing. The coil wire is wound spirally creating a flat stack, as opposed to a round "bundle" or wire in standard coils.

12" round is excellent. 14x9" is slightly more sensitive and better ground coverage, but not as deep as the 12" on gram+ bits.
Coiltek have a 14" and 18" in the Elite. If you are after something for more depth/coverage over the 12" you already have, my recommendation would be a 17x13" Evo. Great coil

Agree, evo are good coils. All down there found in1+1/2day with 13x17evo, smallest bit about 0.05g. Next time bringing my 14x9evo to clean the patch out.Wondering if 13x17 left anything behind...

Hi I tested the 17x13 evo against 14x9 evo and the 14x9 definitely had the edge on the smaller gold and also found it hard to pinpoint small gold with 17x13 but it does go a lot deeper than 14x9.

Yeah ........ BigWave and I can confirm Vstroms findings. We also compared the 14x9 and 17x13 Evos. We had a 0.2g buried at 50mm, 0.5g at 100mm and 7.3g at 200mm. The 14x9 detected all 3 targets. The 17x13 struggled on the 0.2, to the point you'd easily walk over it. However the 17x13 picked up the 7.3g more easily and gave a stronger signal than the 14x9. In fact the 17x13 picked up the 7.3g a good 60mm above the ground. It was obvious to see the 14x9 was better on the small shallow gold but not as good on the larger deeper gold. It just proves you need to swing over a patch with both coils to ensure you've got small shallow and larger deeper gold. Cheers
