Business as usual it seems HH.
I'll be printing this out and keeping it with me and have book marked the PMAV website.
I only have 1 km to go and have a swing.

Dam it Redfin I should have just waited for your post. I am struggling with an inefficient tablet that does not have the luxury of sophisticated cut and paste. I live in the Mitchell Shire so I did a bit of research when the most recent stage three restrictions were applied to us and Metropolitan Melbourne. There was no specific definition given for outdoor recreation but rather a list that included golf, fishing, kayaking, archery even horse riding and surfing. Conditions were added that there would be appropriate distancing. No equipment sharing. Only one other person if they were not from your household. If sharing transport and not form the same house then masks were to be worn. If distancing could not be guaranteed masks were to be worn. I reasoned that if fishing was allowed then detecting would be also. I am on my own and able to satisfy all the conditions. Did I go detecting? Yes. Did I put myself or anyone else at risk? No. Did I break the law? No. I actually went twice. And no I am not one of these people bragging about sneaking around back roads driving half away across the state just to do what I want. I need to get up and about in the garden but maybe later in the day I will return and relate my story. Even without a definition I think you would be okay detecting, if you confined yourself to your local shire. You might need to print part of that document to take with you because there are lots of people including police who think that exercise is the only reason for leaving your home. This comes from the media broadcasting abbreviated outdated information and failing to do adequate research themselves. A map showing your destination would also help because the police officer or army person stopping you may not be a local. A polite, sincere, honest and understanding attitude will be something else that you should pack before heading out.

Cheers Bob.

Thanks Bob and Redfin. Trying to read on an iphone isn't easy. Does it say how far you can travel in a stage 3 area ? Not 5 kms is it ?

No the 5km limit is for Metropolitan Melbourne. Back four weeks ago when we came under the new stage three restrictions the government site that I referred to had a number of questions and answers relating to outdoor recreation. There was no specific distance stated. But if in pursing your chosen recreation you needed to leave your local area i.e. shire then the answer was No. An example would be if you lived in Altona you could not travel all the way across Melbourne to play golf at Sorrento, or into the Dandenongs to go horse riding. Both cases involved what was considered excessive, unnecessary travel. Redfin I would print off the other document as well because PMAV don't make the rules and you need to be prepared for the scenario of being stopped and questioned. If you can demonstrate politely that you are well informed and doing the right thing and you are only interested in doing the right thing then you will be okay. As you would have seen on television these silly people who aggressively and wrongly try to assert their rights get fined and escorted off the street.

Cheers Bob.

I am feeling a little happier about the stage three restrictions. Early this morning Mitchell Shire residents were only allowed to leave home for exercise. It seems that it has been amended to include recreational activities. It is a good example of how things can change and you need to be up with the latest information. What is allowed today could be off tomorrow. How far can you travel? Well under level three restrictions you must travel to the closest spot that allows the pursuit of that activity. If it means travelling into another shire then that is possibly not allowed. That is the case for Mitchell Shire as I understand it. At least I can do more than just going for a walk. It is nice to just have a choice.

Cheers Bob.

That's good news but I'm struggling to understand why this 2nd phase of stage 3 restrictions allows prospecting whereas in phase 1 it was banned  I'll just add it as a new dot point to the pathetic list of inconsistent information

Im all for prospecting to be permitted in groups of 2 :Y: :perfect: it means I can get amongst it :D Mitchell Shire is staying in stage 3 restrictions unlike metropolitan Melbourne.

It is quite simple RM Outback. But for you it's just another chance to bash the government. By Phase One I guess you are referring to Stage Three brought in back in March. Exercise was the only reason for leaving your home. This was clearly defined as walking, running and cycling. Recreation was not allowed. No fishing, no bowls, no golf, no detecting. These were all classed as recreational activities. The government learned a lot from the first round and realised that recreational activities can easily be carried out without risking virus spread. If people follow the guidelines of distancing golf, bowls, kayaking, horse riding, archery heaps of stuff can be done with little or no risk. Also being able to take part in recreational activities is good for mental health. So the new Stage Three firstly applied to Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire four weeks ago looked slightly different. The ruling was changed to read Exercise and Recreation. You should know this because you are in the Mitchell Shire and it is your responsibility to know what is allowed. Now those Stage Three restrictions are being applied state wide. I wouldn't recommend detecting for two especially if that other person does not live with you. If you must go with some one else I would suggest you travel in separate cars. It would be pretty stupid to arrange a day detecting and spend half an hour to forty minutes sitting next to a potential source of infection. Stage three restrictions require golfers to not share buggies so I do not think you should share a car going out detecting. I hope that clarifies the situation for you RM. Stage three won't bother you anyway as you're mostly too busy working to go detecting. It's not as simple as just being able to go detecting. You need to be careful about where you go. Your favourite spot at Whroo is out of bounds as it is in another Shire (Strathbogie I think) and not considered local to you. If you are unsure of a council boundary Geovic allows you to add this overlay to your map.

Forgot to highlight the 5km from home section mentioned in regional areas .... advises you to check the Covid hotline, or the line about "if in doubt stay home" ........ PMAV having a bob each way to some extent.
Good luck, I can't afford the $1,600 bucks.

I'm over it ...... let's just suck it up and enjoy ourselves in 6 weeks time.

Probably be better getting the info from the official dhhs website instead of the PMAV's interpretation of the rules hey. Stop looking for loopholes. Stay at home, wipe this :poop: out, and then we can all get back to prospecting. And if you live in Melbourne just don't even think about it. I'm sure you won't be welcomed in regional Victoria at present. Unfortunately this message seems to be not getting through to some people. Those people are the ones responsible for these restrictions and the loudest complaining.

I dont understand why anyone in Vic wants to go anywhere and POSSIBLY jeopardise the lives and safety of thousands of others? What is it with you morons?

Normally I wouldn't bother responding to such comments but I don't think your post is fair at all. Your comment is basically calling all the contributors of this post morons because they are discussing the current restrictions in place in this state. Your opening statement says it all. You don't understand. Clearly. Without being insulting, without name calling I will try to explain the situation as clearly as I can so that in the future you won't make such outrageous, insulting comments. The virus is not being spread by people playing golf, it is not being spread by people fishing, or detecting to make the point relevant. The virus is not buzzing about flying here and there. It cannot jump off a bush and infect me. The virus is basically being spread by workers employed under casual arrangements. No work, no pay. They are working sick. Aged care workers, meat workers, cleaners. Also there are so many people in the suburbs just not doing the right thing. I know someone who witnessed this first hand. A birthday celebration where the crowd restriction was supposed to be five people. On the property at any one time there were five in the kitchen, five in the living room and five in the garage. They moved and rotated about from one room to another but get this. Every hour or so five would leave and a new group of five would arrive. My source estimates that at least a hundred people circulated through the property for the afternoon. What a disaster if the host was positive??. This is not an isolated incident. The police are busting parties daily. Police checking those that are supposed to be home are finding at least twenty five percent of these people are not staying home. So why ban things that are not causing the spread? Why is the virus creeping into regional areas? Some cases or mini clusters are the result of infected Melbourne residents visiting a relative to render assistance not being aware that their cough or sniffle is the first sign. Some cases have been sparked by uni students returning to the country to do some weekend work in hospitality, cafes etc. causing fellow workers to become infected. Maybe attending a gathering with mates for a few drinks infecting them. The people on this forum wanting to go detecting are not morons. They are very enthusiastic about their hobby and have a better understanding of the situation than you obviously do. If they go detecting and follow the rules set down by the health authorities they pose no risk to anybody. But if someone is sick or has symptoms they should get tested and also stay at home. No one in the previous posts have suggested anyone do that. If they did then you might have some justification for your name calling. You have no right to call anyone names or allude to the fact anyone that has posted something here is a moron. Hopefully my explanation makes sense to you and you can see that your comments are unjustified and the result of your lack of knowledge and understanding. You're free to express an opinion but next time you could try to do it without insulting anyone.

Cheers Bob.

Yeah you are right Bob I do like verbally bashing incompetent governments no matter what colour they choose to fly. I am able to go to Whroo stage 3 doesn't restrict movement between municipalities Bob no matter how far they are from your primary place of residence. Once again your right more often than not I am too busy to enjoy hobbies that's the nature of working for yourself and being successful then throw in a family and there's not much time left for personal pursuits.

I'm fully aware of how to manage myself in the capacity of dealing with covid19 with regard to who I'm with and how I travel. Thanks for your input Bob
