From what I've seen on in situ targets to date the 6000's superior depth/sensitivity to small targets isn't lost once they get bigger. Not saying it's better than the 5000 but I wouldn't say it's worse either (if set right for the conditions). It certainly is picking up gold <3 grams that previous GPX's etc. haven't.

I agree and from what I've also seen on in situ targets with the 5000 in FP settings with Commander 11" mono.

This turned up in the mail the oday, the wife ordered it and surprised me,snaps on the shaft with authority,a nice bit of insurance,$26 i think she mentioned....

Where can we get those GC? The more protection the better I say. :Y:

Herman and SL it came threw FB but he said he just listed them on ebay, here's the link:

Thanks for that. For the cost of the machine they do not seem very robust and I would recommend as much protection as possible. Only used mine for about 9 hours in the last couple of days in wet ground and it's already getting rather covered in mud etc. Got the cover for it back in Werribee and I reckon I feel better once it's on. :Y:

I'd have to agree on that. The main gpx unit seems very well made however the coils, cable connector, skid plates are pretty ordinary.

although on larger nuggets the 5000 pulls away with similar size coil
Based on actual use or what somebody thinks?
5000 with larger coil yes.
GPX11 v 11" mono on 5000 - doubtful from what I've seen.

That ML performance STAR chart appears to confirm what you say and seen in regards to the 6000's 11" coil v 11" mono with the 5000 on nuggets displayed in the chart,0.05g,0.1g,1g,10g and 100g so then a larger coil on the 5000, I guess, on nuggets 10g upwards.

JP probably sums it up best here: https://www.detectorprospector.com/...ommentary-tips/?do=findComment&comment=166955 & here: https://www.detectorprospector.com/...ommentary-tips/?do=findComment&comment=167044
Explains it better & more technically than I could.
I 100% agree with him that the advantages of the GPX6000 over the 5000 (& even GPZ7000) are ergonomics + the smaller gold sensitivity.
JP states that the reality is that the GPX6000 follows the same performance curve as the 5000 when it comes to large gold at depth.
IMO until a larger coil (or coils) is available for the GPX6000 then a 4500/5000 will have a depth advantage once fitted with a coil over say 12-14" on larger targets.

Those with a GPX4500/5000 + SDC combo, or have a GPZ7000 :power: , will likely find the need for a GPX6000 redundant unless they want more scope in one machine to replace 2 (GPX/SDC combo) once larger coils become available or just want/need better ergonomics.
The fewer 6000's out there the better :p

Light weight,we can't have our cake and eat it also to some degree.
No probs here with the twist locks so far but time will tell.
All the more reason i'm starting to think about grabbing another as a backup machine when the 17 comes out,i look at the 45 now thinking i'm not sure if i want to pick the old dinosaur up at all
The times they are a changing......

If this is the case, and I start pulling more bird shot and fly shite gold with the 6000, then I may keep using my 4500 until the hotter months when I dislike the salt encrusted harness.
By ignoring the atom sized bits, I reckon more time will be spent walking further and digging larger targets.
Using the Commander 11" mono, I used to average around a little under 1g per target. Using the 14 * 9" NF Evo (my current goto), I'm down to around 0.3g per target and digging a lot more shot. What a great pin-pointing coil though.
Maybe just use the 6000 at the end of a weekend if nothing found?????

I wouldn't have the scientific terminology to explain things as well as the above but, in laymans terms, I posted exactly that back in April.

https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=607760#p607760

Good to have my initials thoughts/sentiments somewhat confirmed as I'm not so technically gifted when it comes to inverse laws wrt pulse induction machines. 8.(

In my personal experience the 6000 did hit deep test targets with both standard coils that previous gpx units could not see without massive coils and configured exactly right.

But yes, if you have 4500/5000/7000 and an sdc already then is not worth upgrading imho unless you're a professional prospector or have physical/ mobility issues as the ergonomics of the 6000 is worlds apart to previous, similarly capable, machines.

So.....

If you're not with the detector you love then love the detector,or two, that you're with :playful:  :inlove:

Hi GC. Does it just snap on or do you need to run the shaft through it?

Cheers

I get that GemQ. Just wondering about the bit that attaches to the shaft. Just snap lock it in?
