A quick tip to clean your optics, binocular or camera. Instead of using lens cleaning cloths and risk scratching the lens by grinding grit around and around, use a small ball of Bostik Bluetack and just roll it around the lens. It will pick up all the dust and dirt without grinding it into the lens coating. Store the ball in a small clean container, ready for next use. A 35mm film container is ideal (if you can still find one).

No, it will not leave a smeary coating on your lens.

If you have a proper 35mm / DSLR just fit the lens with a UV filter that cost 10 or 20 bucks and then you only have to wipe the outside of the filter and never have to touch the Lens again, and to remove smears just use a cotton bud squirted with blue glass cleaner and then wipe the Lens with clean Tissue, job done.

you can make a good emergency lens brush by rolling tightly a tissue; then pull apart in the middle and use the rough end as the brush.

I saw a guy prospecting in WA (Don Pirawa - RIP) he learnt not to wipe dust off his sunnies , to avoid scratches he would pull out a spray bottle and wash the dust off that way

:Y:

Bunnings sell microfibre cleaning cloth by the bundle for workshop rags. They are just like a bath flannel but clean the lenses beautifully without leaving a mark.
