Just wondering, would it be worth while searching for gold in the Murray river even though there has been no reports of gold findings?
note: We have mostly clay banks.

Thanks

Pretty sure the Murray is a no-go area.

The other problem with there is that the overburden over most of it's length is likely to be horrendously deep, being such an old watercourse.

You might want to do a bit more research as your statement is not accurate. Best of luck with it. :D

Statement still stands. Do your research.

I'll give you a hint the Murray River wasn't called the Murray River when they first found it and it didn't become known as the Murray River until a long time after that.

Research the towns, including Ghost towns, remember most towns in Australia owe their existence to Goldfields.

A good town to research as a starting point is Mobilong now known as Murray Bridge.

Check out the video here it shows you how towns develop over time and change names making research that bit more difficult:

Best of luck :D

Thanks for the hints, hope some of these towns are near me.

Thanks,

Found out SA was packed full of gold history, most in the Adelaide area. None in the Riverland, might head out to some of the spots tomorrow.

Thanks everyone!
