If it’s anything like old copper coins then do not wet it at all, just get a toothpick or sharp skewer and carefully scratch off the crust and you will begin to see more detail. When the whole surface has been covered this way then get some 000 steel wool and gently dry rub over the surface again. Depending on how much patina you want to retain you can leave as is ( it should be a lightish colour) or give it a smear of ‘nose oil’ after you rub your finger over the OUTSIDE of your nose. This nose oil will darken it slightly and add a bit of depth.Mate found this today, is there a good way to clean it up without damaging it??
