Yep Golddiggerart, I reckon it is an oldie, not much decoration to it and there is a join in the band, it fitted my 7yr olds finger well
so it may have been a childs ring.
Its an old park and there are pics from the late 1800's and into the 1900's, have found really early dog tags and stuff in there.
This was on an embankment surrounding a cricket oval but I dont think the oval is that old, although it may be entirely older knowing the area has history kinks.

Well about 1hr in the CA and tried the foil trick, here is the result.
No markings inside, basic pattern that looks a little Hippie like 60's 70's.
There is a join in the band.
Maybe hand made too, its rough.
Probably give it to M1, she was stoked to be wearing it while I continued to hunt.

Thanks Heatho, I gave it a small rub with the thumb in the field, saw shiny bit, but was really hoping for a Jeannie to appear.

GH... can you tell if the colors are made of ceramics?
Later made rings done 'low 'cost' usually have paint of some sort, but early examples are of a better quality and use ceramics...
Yours also looks reasonably hefty in comparison to modern rings..
Hard to tell with my screen & eyes.. :8

Hi GGA, the colours are deeply recessed and are hard/rough/gritty to scratching with my fingernail so I guess that it could be ceramic.
Being bright still also, I suppose paint would discolour or fade.
What could that mean if it is ceramic?

It may be as early as 20's-40's (Art Deco - Art Nouveau era's )...
European examples date back hundreds of years, so if it belonged to an immigrant/visitor/etc it may be even older. These are true examples of 'enamel' and with age break down and you can tell it has a 'glass' composition.
I'd have a Jeweller suss it out for you..

That is interesting stuff.
No mint marks that I can see, just a joint in the band.
Where did you learn all this? Have you trained as a jeweller ?

Don't be put off by the joint...much early jewellery was made as a one size fits all...with expanding rings, bracelets, watch bands etc.
Not having mint marks, if a modern piece, is troubling. It may be stainless steel with 'modern' finishes in the color.
Having said that, extremely old jewellery was at times not hallmarked either, particularly prior to the early 1800's.
A jeweller will be able to advise of the metal...

It is too soft and heavy for stainless, it had the typical dull grey oxidization of silver and cleaned as would be expected with citric acid and foil.
So I am now a little nervous about it, excited too as it would be a huge find to be older than say 50 years.
Any jeweler or one with specific skills?

I prefer to avoid places like 'Prouds' or Michael Hill and use the little 'ol guy down the lane, or the 3x Generations of family jewellers. They tend to be more 'specialist' than mere 'retailers'.
If you can swing it, even a watch-maker should be able to tell, but sounds like your on the right track with it being silver.
One more thing to consider,...it may be silver 'plate' which is why it had the 'oxidation' of silver...

[edit]...having a second look, the oxidation looks wrong for silver to me...(may be the screen/eyes)...I'd still be prepared for it being an alloy of some type (perhaps a nickel/tin combo) as i'd have expected to see some green due to the copper content leaching out..

Here in Adelaide I have used a group call A Class Jewelers for years to buy and make, the owners are different from 38+ years ago but they
do have experience.
And there is another that services the Italian community near by, no harm talking to both.

Well Kato and I have not been up to much, but we went out for a swing today with the family.
Arrived at the Torrens Parklands in Adelaide.
Got out of the car and unpacked the 4x detectors, fish rod and kids
Low and behold we were asked to assist with our detectors - long story.
ANYWAY
So today I found........
Roman coin
Chopped coins and silver ring 925 (Kato found the marking)

Wow that's some nice finds, those rings are a dime a dozen, seen a few of them being posted so it must be like the (pandora) jewellery, easy to lose and easy to find. lol :Y:
