After about 6 or 7 weeks I had my first detect. We went back to our normal site and moved over to another rise. This area is some hundred metres or so from an area my detecting partner has dubbed "Grand Central Station" due to the number of times we had been there at various levels up a hill and keep finding goodies. The new area was, according to local lore, even more populated. We did not find it so (so far) but did walk away with a pretty good tally all up for the day. My takings are shown below.
1854 penny, flattened 1860s penny, 1841 shilling, 1825/6 half penny, one Chinese coin (yet to be dated) and my first "Hanks and Compy" token.
I found a camp site that I presume was a policeman's camp as I found 3 crown buttons with one, gilt still largely intact and with "New South Wales Police" stamped on it. I can not make out the manufacturer on the back yet. The police mustn't have been paid much as that was where I found the 1/2d.
The shotgun cartridge is copper. I think the other real item of interest is a small lock.
