These moss agates are pretty hard to spot, they look very different on the outside compared to
how they look once cut.
But I'm getting better at spotting the elusive little blighters.
Very nice there Richard - have you done a piece of that moss agate yet?
I only recently discovered that there is moss agate on the place at the Fitzroy river, just like yours it only looks like a rock until you inspect it closely. I haven't cabbed any yet, it's interesting-looking but not as colourful as your stuff there.
Lefty,I've started to cab a few but still getting my hand in so don't want to ruin any of my better stuff.
Here's a couple of different ones that I have practiced with.
The green one was a little porous and the polish has gotten into the stone. Not sure how to get that out.
KTMman, as you know headed north after a late night invite.....but, I have an RDO tomorrow so just might get down there and have a look. Will let you know tomorrow night.
I turned up a few pieces of jasper on one small creek (I think you may have been there yesterday Ktmman). Put in a few hours looking for crossings & checking out roads but no real finds. The grass sure has got a hold of the place compared to last time I was there.
Also poked out for a look around the Stuart r & kingar, likewise there for now until I can track down some land owners.
No I havent KTMman, to be honest I haven't heard of that one. I have heard of tourmaline further out.
Stopped at a crossing on Kingar today and the blue metal that the base was made of was dotted with what looked like olivine, tourmaline and another black formation. Might slip out and grab a rough pic of it.
Petrified wood in the sieve BB....
ive got a thing for that stuff
One day ill post some pics of some of my stuff ive found(currently buried in a storage shed)
