Don't recall ever finding one of those at all, great find ! :Y:

Thanks guys, that medallion popped out of the ground just as I was thinking that I would going home without a coin or significant find, thought it was a coin at first, turned out even better.

1.67 million were produced, so there must be a few more out there waiting to be found. :)

Back again to the same ruins as previous, this time trying out the theory that no one bothered to try and detect the opposite side of the access track vs detecting the actual site. My theory pretty much proved to be correct, a buckle not 3 metres from my car, followed by 1906 & 1907 Edward VII pennies. The next 3 hours was pretty exhausting, didn't even scratch the surface even with over 80 targets, so plenty of ground to explore yet.

The next two coins were a 1911 & 1907 hp, then I hit on a couple of SA dog tags - the first heart shape one from 1892 to 1893, and a near pristine example from 1886 to 1887, my oldest yet.

The silver plate plaque either belongs to a motorcycle or bicycle from the turn of the century, Vivian Lewis Cycles works of Adelaide. The business ran from the late 1800's through to the mid seventies sometime.

Last item I detected was a cool gold gilded broach set with all gems accounted for, guessing the middle one is a garnet. :)

Will have to start using my you beaut camera in the field from now on, my phone camera lense is scratched, hence the washed out and out of focus dig shots.

Thanks for that, if you haven't noticed in the picture with the hole and pile of soil - the coin is in the pile. :D

Awesome finds GP, that brooch is a beauty, please take a pic with some light behind the stones if you get as chance, I reckon garnet and zircon. :Y:

Cracking hunt. :)

 :Y: You've got some digging to do there  nice  Did it look like the other guys dug much up?
The Penny's look too cool, is it that black loamy dirt they came from? not the black sandy or brown

That's why ya can't believe it when the other guys say its been done already, just tell em, "well it hasn't been done with this machine at all". ;) ;)
Making me feel tired just seeing all that diggings worth of targets Gp, well found on it all, and the presentation of the photo shoot too.
:Y: :p :Y:

The area has been done, though most make the mistake assuming all the easy pickings will be in the immediate vicinity of the ruins, when in fact most of them gave been spread all over the joint.

Oh well, enough to keep me busy for a while, looks like Mrs Goldpick and myself will have another run there early next week - take a picnic and all that stuff. :)

No, the ground is actually mostly sand, the black coating on the coins I suspect comes from the pine trees. Underneath the black coating is your usual green patina, so in a way it does protect them from too much oxidation. The older dog tag is a bit of an oddity, virtually no oxidation whatsoever on a 130 year old item is pretty astounding.

Forgot to mention that both dog tags are from district 128, which is Robe - about 100kms further up the coast from here. :)

Cool pic GP, almost certainly garnet and zircon, very nice. Now will they be staying in the original setting or being recycled into a new setting for Mrs GP? :)
