2017 detector finds

Pretty crap weather today for a detect, ended up sitting in the car for ages eating subway whilst waiting for the rain to subside. The chosen site was an abandoned cricket oval that I hit earlier in the year with some success https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=323106#p323106, though after a ton of gridding only a few coins came to light.
At least there were some silvers still to be found - 1962 florin, and 1961/1950 threepences - the 1964 penny was pretty much a sunbaker. All the coins found here are always in top condition, mainly limited to early decimal and late predecimal, meaning the oval probably only saw action for a limited period.
Probably won't return here anytime soon, at least the sun did eventually come out to provide what was quite a nice day in the end.

Good to still get a Florry out of there,not to mention the rest of the silvers.
Have you looked further into the trees? The old cricket field I dug had coins 10-15 metres into the bush,probably kids mucking around.

Any day you can get out for a swing is a good day and you got some Silvers too which look like they'll clean up great. :Y:
:Y:Looking at the ground I reckon that you need to be extra resourceful in South Australia,and it is always nice to come home with some silver :Y:

Might not be a Rocket hunt, but on the flip side I probably have more access to old relic sites than the city boys.
Just good to get out of town for a bit of a road trip, I feel worse for the Missus, she only got 20c.

AMAZING Florin! My mate found 1919 Florin from same spot I ran the detector on Sunday! I was happy to see it but same time my hurt sank...

The ground has been hit pretty hard by others in the past, so I am pretty much mopping up what others have missed due to gaps in coverage. Hit the church site today for a few hours, mainly on the look out for any missed or iffy targets, all of which are becoming much less common from successive hunts.
The most unexpected find was a large Victorian era paper clip, unfortunately missing the hand which holds onto the paper. It was manufactured by J&B Ratcliff of Birmingham, and is the second large paper clip I have found to date. Also did quite well on the buttons, with a small two piece Navy button complete with shank, and yet another local J.Flett Mount Gambier button. Picturd next the paper clip is the remains of a Hughes Pocket Scales.
Next detect will be on the weekend when we will be off looking for some undiscovered house sites, hopefully we will get onto some new ground.

Yeah, I had no idea what it was till I got home and cleaned it up, though I doubt whether the hand is still there - probably picked up by another detectorist.

After cleaning out the same locations for a while now, Mrs Goldpick and myself headed off with map in hand and google earth, to try and locate an old house location in the forest. First location turned out to be a dud after coming across a clearing and some ceramics. Moved further back down the track and saw exactly what we wanted to see amongst the trees - newly sprouted bulbs indicating a possible site. Only moved a metre from the car before I hit the first metal target, and it was game on after that.
Clearly the site had been hit before, shovel holes and part plugs all over the place, no doubt cherry picking high conductors. No to be detered, both the G2 and Deus went to town on targets, they were literally all over the place, never dug so many damned shotty shells in one sitting before. In the end we got rained out, though I can see plenty of return visits to this site in the future going by the results.
On another note, I reckon I found the forum's smallest ring today, set with a bluish stone - the Deus is just amazing to be able to pick up on such a thin jewellery piece.!
