Finally pulled my finger out and made some time to go prospecting, i went out last weekend and the weekend that just passed. This is what i have got so far from about 3 hours of digging, still not yet through all of the dirt but this is what i have got so far
Due to the very dry spell we've had recently, the bottom of an old alluvial drive in clayey wash has become accessible so I thought Id do a bit of a sample to try and work out the best way of treating this truely horrible wash. I took (with the help of my son) 3 buckets home to puddle in my concrete mixer.
To break down to a slurry that will allow the gold to sink I would need about 100lts of water for each 20lt bucket of wash. so not really viable to puddle at home. The Gold I got was just worth it but this area has given up a few nice little slugs :goldnugget: and shotty bits.
So I may need to build a Mobile puddler layful:

I spent a few hours panning a local creek today. Mainly focussed on a few crevices.
Under the gravel wash was a really thick sticky grey clay. Most of the gold I found was sitting in the gravels above the clay. I spent a while breaking the clay down to pan but found almost nothing. Is this generally what happens?
Yes , clay is like a skin or false bedrock so any gold that gets down through the sand will sit on the clay , if the clay is only a layer that has been deposited sometimes gold can be under it .

With a 300d pan It takes me 8-10 pans to process 20ltres.
The slate dump pans that tested positive to gold were pans 3 and 6. If I had only taken 1-2 pans worth then the result would have been zilch and inaccurate.
The monster found 3g's of nuggs off this dump so the question had to be answered..

Spent Saturday in my favourite creek. The sunday before Id got 1.6grams of amalgam and .3gm of clean gold from a crevise in the middle of some fast water. No Photos unfortunately. So I thought Id head back for another try.
Took a bit of sampling to find a good spot, but it was worth it in the end. I was only sorry I didnt bother to set up the river sluice for a bit faster processing. Averaging around 20 colors to the pan. Also got a couple of pickers.
The final day tally
going back again next weekend as I havent got to bedrock yet. As long as it doesnt rain too much (although we need it)

Last time I used a crack scratcher, I accidently found a nugget but it was the gold type.
Hi anyone who reads this, I live at Samford Valley in Brisbane and I know there was gold at Mt Glorious somewhere back in time... I notice specks of what appears to be gold in my creek, there is also black sand around it and just wondering, who can I contact to see if its placers gold or the real deal and if its worth it, sizes of flecks are pinhead size and there a fair bit of it washes down in sand each time it rains, thanks in anticipation,. otherwise it ends up in my neighbours dam!!!!
