sometimes it was a lot of deep underground work, the satellite maps can hardly pick up some shafts or worked areas, also a lot of mines were back filled around the 70's and have no visible surface workings anymore, tailings piles were usually gathered up by some councils for road gravels best...

the first photo looks like pyrite from the 2 crystal like structures may be wrong though, either way if you find a nice size bit it can look good in the garden bed every prospector out this week will be on the hunt for the hollow log :P
