    quick hunt

I found an earring in the same style as that brooch - it just had 'SIL' stamped on it in very small letters. Think it's from the '30's or '40's - very old anyway.

Aldi Detector on sale Wednesday 30th December.

Yeah, I haven't got a pinpointer, so I end up digging a huge crater, just to find a broken off piece of pull tab! The Aldi seems to detect with the edge of the coil as well as the center, so small things are hard to find in all the dirt. Other than that, it's great.

Aldi Detector on sale Wednesday 30th December.

You can ring the Aldi head office and see if there are any left in shops in your area, but there is nothing really special about them - just a standard Chinese detector - the Jaycar QP-2307 is basically the same thing internally, as far as I can see. Just the Aldi is cheaper and you can return...

    Aldi Rechargeable Batteries ?

I've got 8 Aldi AA batteries for my metal detector - they work fine, although I think the voltage is a little less than single-use batteries, which can be a problem with some LED torches etc (might be 1.2 instead of 1.5 volts). Got a cheap Digitor battery charger from Jaycar, leave them to...

    Gday from the Wimmera

Thanks for the welcome guys. Yeah, there was a big flood back in 2011 - it did a bit of damage in the area, but been fairly dry since then. No cutting plugs here - just kick the dust away with your boot to find the coins, lol. Anyway, hopefully I will have something to show in the future.

    Gday from the Wimmera

Hi guys, thought I should stop being rude, and introduce myself. Im living in what the Americans would call a jerk-water town a town where the steam trains used to stop to take on water in the sunny Wimmera district of Victoria. Bought my Jaycar QP2301 detector in July 2015 originally to...

Aldi Detector on sale Wednesday 30th December.

Thanks for the reply, silver. The oval hasn't been used for anything since the '70's I guess- it's full of rabbit burrows, and the local fire brigade burns it off every year - my town, like many in north west Victoria is long past its glory days and most of the population is gone - so its hard...

Aldi Detector on sale Wednesday 30th December.

I like the Aldi detector now... I was walking across my local footy oval, not wearing headphones which is nice, and I heard the highest tone. So I swung around a bit, and still high - so with a careful dig... out popped a 1914 shilling. Nice for a Sunday morning, lol. MD was set to Disc on...

Aldi Detector on sale Wednesday 30th December.

Yeah, I'm still a bit confused as well lol, but I've got the different tones happening at least. Turn it on, press 'Disc' or 'Notch', then 'Disc/Notch' ; then hold down the '+' button until the bar graph goes to the end - and then just dig the 2 higher tones. That's all I've worked out so far...

Aldi Detector on sale Wednesday 30th December.

LOL, I finally got Disc and Notch to work - after confusing myself by reading the instructions and pressing lots of buttons! Making all the right noises. Maybe I'm a slow learner, but I think I may enjoy this MD after all!

Aldi Detector on sale Wednesday 30th December.

I used mine on all metal - in disc & notch it wouldn't find anything. Found a 1942 penny & a 1950 threepenny, so it works, but seems slow to respond and difficult to pinpoint the target. Wouldn't recommend the MD to an absolute beginner.

Aldi Detector on sale Wednesday 30th December.

Got to Aldi in Ararat about 5 minutes after opening - slept in, lol! But it was OK - about 10 there, and I think I was the only one who bought one. Now off to find my fortune, lol.

Aldi Detector on sale Wednesday 30th December.

I'm gonna try to git me one of those... I was told by an Aldi staff member that they sell like hot cakes - so ya gotta be an early bird, lol. Be interesting to see if I can detect any coins that my el cheapo Jaycar MD missed. Thanks for the heads-up, lol.

    Cheap metal detectors

Can't see anything in the catalog up to the 23rd - but no doubt there will be plenty of warning from people on this forum - like last year! Found a 1946 Florin today with my scrapheap Jaycar detector after six months of searching - the detector is more reliable in hot dry conditions somehow...

    Cheap metal detectors

Oh, hi! Ive been using the Jaycar QP-2301 for the last few months, and it IS pretty awful- discrimination is terrible, it sounds off whenever I hit a tuft of grass, and the adjustable shaft is held together with duct tape because the adjusting nut is rubbish. Plus it became intermittently...
