Stone tools & knapping - anyone had a go?

Back in the day, Aboriginals used Silcrete for their tools ;) It makes a huge difference to how they work, we have found it near Berwick\Wonthaggi before, some around the Geelong area, and a metric shite ton of the stuff up around Mildura :D I have some floating around here some...

    bit of advice Labertouche area

If some one wanted to organise a day out, I would volunteer my 4wd to go to out of the way places.....I am a total noob though when it comes to fossicking though ;) Weekends are hard at the minute with the wife working and having two kids, but with enough notice I am sure I could get a day ;)

    bit of advice Labertouche area

A lot of that area is 2wd accessible. Get a map of the area, and have a look and see what parts you want to go too, most should be on the circuit roads, or not too far from them any way :) I have a 4wd and go there a bit, some tracks are pretty knarly, but most are easily driven

    Manual or auto

I am a bit late to the party, but I will never go back to a manual 4wd :D I have owned nearly 10 4wds over the years and always manuals until this one, the ONLY place a manual 'might' be better is in long down hill descents, but then that's what I have brakes for. You are taught not to use...

    Diamond tipped crowbar..?

Tungsten is far to brittle to use on a crowbar either, we use tungsten faced bits at work, drop it and it just shatters, our diamond bits are the same, although they are in a matrix, they still don't like being dropped. I would have thought the harder the bar the more likely it will shatter...

    new rig!

I would at least put some decent tyres on, and a front bar and winch :D I love 4wding and have done a LOT up the GT, before finding out about prospecting any way  , amazing how quickly you get stuck after a quick sprinkle of water up there, or any where for that matter. Does look good...

    Ringwood, Croydon goldfields..?

I grew up in Nth Ringwood, spent the best part of 30 years there, and the last bit in Kilsyth, so would be considered a local lol , never even heard of gold there.....we all knew about Warrandyte and the like :o Funny where the hunt for gold send you

    Drinking dam water

I would just drink the what ever I could get my hands on IF I had too, to worry about arsenic and the like, you have to be alive first :D Generally speaking short of a dead animal in the dam, that water is probably better than most metro water tanks most have these days ;) Those straws do...

You could try the State library, they would have the info on a out of the way gold mine as any one else.
