On a painful note - the place I hired the detectors from didn't have any Doug Stone maps of the area ? Running a bit blind now

Hey guys, so we're at Slatey Creek # 3 at the moment - the queen d was a little hairy the other night but all good. Went out for a few hours yesterday south of #3 in an area off Wolfes Rdat the rough junction of three creeks. Interpreting the ground is so different when you're there! Trying to...

    Creswick

Thanks Goldierocks, your input has been invaluable - so you mention layering of maps etc - but I'm not really proficient in that side of things let alone using GIS sadly - is there a resource that can show the reefs/veings (gold bearing) around Creswick or am I best to use the Doug Stone maps?

    Creswick

So then, right place, right time, right angle of swing of the detector and they're some good sized stuff to still be found... I'm not looking for the welcome stranger but wouldn't mind a few grams :) I'm going to fully digest your posts Goldierocks and get back to you :P thank you! Can I...

Can you just come and sit on my shoulder over the weekend lol - your knowledge is abundant and awesome! we're going to stick south - hoping to get a good map from Coiltek but I'd love to understand the geology of the area a little better

    Creswick

My apologies I replued to your previous comments prior to reading this - you answered some of the questions for me in this :) So how can you find a reef in an area? so the gravel you refer to is that a thin layer of 'gravel' that is clearly differentiated from the soil around it? Also, if you...

    Creswick

Thanks goldierocks, The learning part is where I'm at - I definitely wouldn't call myself experienced - I've an understanding of the basics. I've only detected three times and did a training day with Coiltek. So the red dotted areas are ultimately gravel at depth with sometimes shallow...

And very helpful ones! thank you folks! I'm hiring a GPX5000 - not sure what coil it comes with standard albeit I've asked if I could get an 8" mono

    Creswick

Thanks Newbie, We're hoping that all of the rain etc will have moved things around a little... I guess the only way to find it is to be out there :P Were you detecting? did you find anything?

    Creswick

So what layer would one select to help determine where the reefs lie? or is that a fairly specialised interpretation process?

    Creswick

Hi Folks, A group of us are thinking about heading out Creswick way over the next week or so - just wondering if anybody has been out there of late? Any advice? Gold is where you find it of course but I'd happily accept any pointers. This is our third time out and so far we've found a lot of...

    Kamarooka

Did you work mainly up in the Jones reef area or the marked shallow workings? I think the shallow stuff seems to be closer to doubtful reef but I've been led to believe jones reef is over 7km long so doubtful may just be the continuation of jones reef.

    Kamarooka

Thanks Casper, I had a look at that reference and information is very limited... Seems there's two reefs in the area but there isn't a huge amount of info on either. It seems doubtful reef is the main area for shallow workings whereas jones reef was deeper...

    Blackwood mines Victoria

Hi folks, this is going to be a very ambiguous post as I don't have a lot of information... Some friends and I camped along the Lerderderg River in the Sultan Reef area... We went for a bushwalk and found two interesting mines on the eastern side of the river. One of the mines was in to the side...

    Beaufort prospecting trip

Hey Detrack, just wondering, where do you get the maps with the reef markings and ppb readings? Is that an extrapolation from GeoVic?

    Kamarooka

Hey Folks, I was wondering if anyone has worked Kamarooka State Park before? Specifically the section around Bendigo - Tennyson Rd? I've reviewed GeoVIC and it shows nothing really around that area. I've got an opportunity to work some private land - around 300acres of it - and it's never had a...

Deciphering Doug Stone maps and trying to correlate that with GeoVIC

Hey Detrack, I have now... That is one serious map... Any books on how to decipher it? Lol. I mean I can translate the colours etc from the legends... But what does it mean ? I can see the alluvial gold areas are correlated on Doug Stone & GeoVIC
