    Mystery Item... or not?

Just a bit of rubbish to some but I enjoy finding bits like that, gives you a glimpse into the life of the people & families that once lived at the location. And often makes you think about how much the world has & is changing.

    Mystery Item... or not?

Yep, that's what I thought originally but after looking at picture after picture after picture I couldn't tell what part of one of those tin plate toys it might be. Some hidden internal part perhaps? But then I saw these. ...

    Mystery Item... or not?

Haven't been out swinging much lately, just managing a few short sessions and not very deep, grounds been a bit hard out here. I did however, dig an interesting little item that (frustratingly) took a me a while to identify. I was just on the verge of giving up the research when I stumbled...

    Calling all button people!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out as soon as I get a chance. No markings on the back and the little loop where the button would have been sewn on has been long broken off.

    Calling all button people!

Have you seen a button with these images before? Its approx. 15mm diameter and mostly flat/very slight curve. Eagle, cannons, crown - Military perhaps?

    Love my Terra

This pin with the shield has faint white crossed lines, hesitant to wipe it too much incase they come off. Brooch is pressed copper I'm guessing? Some faint traces of silver paint or plating? Probably not a diamond. :(

    Love my Terra

Probably not too worried about doing any major restorations or anything. Just planned on keeping for myself. The pendant (looks like a maltese cross sort of shape to me) is about half a millimeter thin, not 100% sure of metal type but looks goldish under the surface. (I broke one point off...

    Love my Terra

Have been playing around getting to know my new Terra705 lately. Found alot of nails, wire and casings but also came across a few more interesting items too. Any tips on cleaning them up appreciated, have just rinsed them to removed dirt so far.

What do you do with your finds?

A bit of extra pocket money is always good :) I've not been lucky enough to come come across gold yet...I'll cross my fingers, you never know. Can I ask what the scrap value of your average 9k or 18k gold band would be?

What do you do with your finds?

Great idea B5MECH. :) I've seen some silver coins turned into rings too, not sure if this can be done with pennies?

What do you do with your finds?

I'd love to know what everybody does with their finds afterwards. As I don't have a detector yet, all of my finds have been sighted by eye & picked up from the grounds surface around my 1800s ruin. I have several containers of bits & pieces that are just sitting in a cupboard. Most of the items...

    Suppliers in SA

I'm looking for a reasonable entry level detector to explore an 1800s ruin on my property. Prefer not to buy online but can't seem to find many suppliers in SA. Any suggestions?
