a nice 1997 20c

there were 1981 3&1/2 claws better than my last ones

this looks like 3&1/2 claws...... but.....

I only kept it cause it was an exceptional 1966

5c
I kept a lot to help fill an album....
but the two stand out coins were
1972 5c

and....
1972 (even better)

Well ive had fun.... all the boards are done.
I'll post my updated versions all in the one post next to make it easy for some.
waiting then to see what someone else finds.
I'll only post up anything of interest from here on in too..... keep it simple

Going through a lot of 5c's lately

So.... on reflection, I am now looking at a coin thinking "is this one worthy".... nice field.... no scratches.... no rim damage (after mint).... thinking " would I buy that myself ".
I've lot's of 5c now (still not enough though). So at some stage I will inspect the catch and throw back any deemed not worthy enough (depending on age or scarcity/rareity) as in my original mindset I was probably hauling in some pretty unworthy specimens (so to speak)... not to worry (no loss at these prices ), I can just trade them for the real deal instead.
I found myself saving all years of the 5c (cause it's pretty cheap to do) and it eventually just kicked in to be very very picky because the really good ones do come along eventually.

Silver,the $2 coin 4th photo down which you have labeled "a nice 2015" looks to me to actually be a 2018 with the "8" very lightly struck.

What is a good denomination to get some coin rolls for a starter to have a crack?

Might have to be a code breaker blocker erfect:
Lord 5c is cheap to start, but you need a magnifier on a stand to make it easier to search.
I got $90 worth of rolls the other day (45 rolls). And out of that I was lucky enough to find four 1972.... two 2016 kangaroos.... and a 2015 missing SD as well as lots of gemmy looking coins (I kept $6-$7 out of the $90.)
Fifty cent hunts are easy to see, and I actually found a 2010 rotated 50 the other day (only slightly).
I've limited myself to how many coins I can have by purchasing some kitchen organiser trays from a cheap shop for $2 each (I only have 5 trays for the 5c so far) but that is only a short term solution for storage as long term needs a certain type of plastic that has no effect on the coins at all (I'll get them eventually).
Once I start filling up some of the 5c years in my trays I'll go through them to make sure they are worthy of keeping, if not then I can just trade them for better ones as I go (for no extra cost then as I'll just be replacing for better ones).
with the other denominations I'm just keeping some good ones seperate for now.... but when I get trays for them I'll have less coins because they're all bigger than the 5c..
I'll just see where it leads... I'm enjoying looking that's for sure

yeah... not sure what made that... maybe a reason that the 8 was faint

Well coin hunters, want to hear a sad story? My father who passed away some 34 years ago used to bring home rolls and bags of coins going back to the old Lsd days. Just before he passed away he gave his grandson (my son) a large suitcase full of pre-decimal coins. I could barely lift it. My son did nothing with it until he just went to a coin shop and cashed them in. The actual coin collection (including all the rare ones yes including a 1930 penny and a number of half sovereigns went to one of his female friends. Looking at your thread - just makes me wonder??

Yeah, it's all for naught if the recipients have no idea of value or worth blocker... or the sense of reality about them yet.
My own Mother crochet'd a beautiful blanket for one of my nephews... but alas.... he had no sense in her eyes.... he's over thirty now and still..... has no blanket yet.
So, not only is training the mind to recieve involved, but training the mind to perceive and retrain others once again themselves further down the line involved..... it could be hard to find the correct person to pass on stuff to as the first hard time in life that pops up and ,..... it's all gone.

What a suitcase that would'a been to look through hey ! Just one gemmy coin from way back before Lizzy and your up in the tens of thousands..... let alone a probable suitcase full of them
But.... your Dad had his time getting them, and would have enjoyed knowing what he was doing at the time hey

I collected pre-decimal coins for many years while going through school, used to swap them for decimal coins when other kids brought them to me, anyway I had loads of silver coins from 3d's to Florins, one day when I was about 14 I came home to find my collection dumped out on my bed and almost all the silver coins gone, the culprits were my two younger brothers who had taken them down to the local pin ball parlour and fed them all into the machines, no amount of pleading with the store manager got the coins back either. 8.(

When I was a kid a friend and I were messing about with some decimal coins, cant recall exactly what we were doing with them at the time but I dropped one of the 20c pieces on to the ground and when it landed it just made a dull flat sound instead of a normal ringing sound, on closer inspection I could see that it was cracked almost all the way round the outer side of the rim, I tried to pry it apart but it was still stuck firm, anyway I remember that we repeatedly struck it on to the table and probably the floor as well until it broke into two separate pieces, front and back were separate, you could push it back into place and then drop it on the table to the amusement of other as it sprang apart, they thought we were doing magic by being able to do it.

Anyway for some reason my friend and I decided that it must be a forgery so being kids and interested in the drama we were wanting to know if it was real or not, we went to the local commonwealth bank and showed to it a teller at the bank who declared it was just damaged and despite our protest that we wanted it back so we could keep it, instead he just gave us another 20c piece and sent us on our way, so if you have such a 20c coin in your collection then you now know it was stolen from me :awful:

I have found these glasses to be very useful particularly for getting a good look at my coin finds, My missus found these glasses in the Australia Post shop for $19.95 and I also saw them for sale online but they were more expensive, they are called One Power Readers and although I cant read with them on I find them great for looking at coins when checking dates and looking at nuggets and so on. erfect:
