Any suggestions on where in and around Talbot Victoria I can take the metal detector to search for that elusive heavy golden stuff.
This would be my first time there so don't just write, "Yerr, state forest maaaaaate".
Are there any gold maps of this area and reigion or can I only get a regular map?
Any gold shops in Talbot or any people or business in Talbot that provides information to the humble foot sloggin gold prospector?

As you can see by my numerous questions, I'm trying to mine as much data as I can before I go there so I don't fall on to private property or protected land. 8)

1. Coiltek Gold Centre, Maryborough for maps. About 15-20 minutes north.
2. Try Geovic http://er-info.dpi.vic.gov.au/sd_weave/anonymous.html for free mapping
3. Stick to State Forrests, some of Paddys Ranges is NO GO, so go to the Vic Parks Office in Maryborough for some maps of the area or go online to http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/paddys-ranges-state-park download the PDF.

Last - If you're not sure re Private Property (usually fenced) or No Go areas - DON'T

Plenty of info if you look for it.
Try Daisy hill where the lands been scrapped/ turned over/ surfaced.

G'day Empty Pockets, have a look here:- http://mapshare2.dse.vic.gov.au/MapShare2EXT/imf.jsp?site=geovic

The grey areas are unreserved crown land and accessible under your Miners Right - select Crown Land Managed > Reserve to see the no go areas (coloured bright green) - good luck and remember that you are actually 160 years too late for the gold rush so you will still have a lot of fun but possibly will still have empty pockets in the end :D

Take two!

It's been a while so I must thank all of you for your valuable input.
We've since been out there and struck it big time!
Yes that's right we found gold!
Enough to buy one valve cap for our car!

So we went over mostly well dug up ground and met some other guys out there doing the same thing. We did some surface scraping, loaming and Detecting. It was a nice camping trip!

Since then we've found a spot that hasn't been touched for a long long time which will be our next stop. It even revealed an old walk in mine that we passed
numerous times. I have to thank that nervous left twitch in my neck for finding it. It was well over grown.

I will start a new topic eventually and share our progress.

Cheers

Go for gold
