A Whites 5000D was my very first detector, back in 1980! I wonder whether anybody will be advertising that they're looking for an X-Terra 305 in 35 years time.

Sold the A2b and kept these. LOL

Still got all of mine,... 5000d still looks brand new, and works like a charm,......still,....going strong since 1977(inherited it from my Ma n Pa). before that came into existance I got given a kit detector that needed re soldering by an electrician after my mate and I tried to build it alone.

im looking at about $200 - $250 for a 6000D and under $100 for the 6DB
i saw the 2 on ebay but both went over my budget.

to the suggestions of what i'd be better off with, ty, but my old friend insists i get what he says. so, if i have to, im going to argue with strangers and not with him

Some of these are models that probably never made it to the Australian market. Back in the day, many Whites detectors in Australia weren't even US-built by Whites - they were UK models built under licence by a mob called Savo, in Scotland!

Good luck with it, Paddy. They aren't an easy beast to master in the goldfields, but you will learn a lot along the way and with their low operating frequency, they'd go deep and you could have some success - I certainly hope you do.
