This is what you get when you spend big and get yourself an 80" LED TV - not much in them these days.

Not true. You can replace most components in the power supply as well as most on the main board. Probably the only thing you wouldnt replace is the micro. We often do SMD component level repair. That being said, under warranty we generally replace boards due labour being the most costly factor.

Anything in electronics "can be repaired" as Steelpat has said .. its all down to what is easier to do, in most cases, by the technician... replace a board or diagnostics and appropriate equipement to desolder, reball and resolder if its a IC intergrated circuit that is suspect.
Unfortunately it is the consumer that will loose out by either leaving their "to costly to repair item" with the technician who will fix it in their own time to resell as a refurbished item, second option, ..replace a over priced circuit board, ...third option...go out and purchase a new replacement item that will with time fail again... We are a consumer society whether you like it or not ... and built in obsolescences in the way of the future because it promotes consumerism which is good for "ecconomy".

Micro circuits = micro solder joints that most commonly fail due to poor design in dissipating heat ... the factor that causes most typically all failure / faults in 80+ % of all non functioning electronics.

Best solution ... dont turn them on and they will last a long time
