What I can see its that Ace 250 based on coins mostly and jeweleries .....does it work on gold nuggets if going off road as well ?

Coin detectors and gold detectors are different machines with different technology. Yes a 250 will find gold... if it's big enough and shallow in the ground. Gold detector prices start about the $1000 mark.

Stick with a well known brand and spend as much as you can afford. Most people want to upgrade if the buy a lower priced detector.

Hay DeathKiss I will call a spade a spade from what you said to find gold regularly look minelab is the only way to go ,yes the detectors you were looking at may find gold but the mineralization may give them a lot of trouble and as others have said right size and depth, try and do a lot of home work and ask as many questions no matter how stupid they might be that's the only way to learn and ever one here is most helpful regards john :)

Yeah, the ACE250 is not good as soon as the ground gets mineralised you have to turn it right down to try and settle it, even salt water gives it a hard time, you can certainly tell the difference with it as soon as you get above some sort of ground mineralization , but otherwise it is simplicity at its quickest once it reveals its ability. ;)

Gday Death,
I have found out the hard way like ppl have said above.... i got a garrett 250 because it was cheap... my old mans saying is hes to poor to buy cheap.. and hes right... all I found was old timers rubbish and no gold at all with it... I think the price = the luck
I saved for a Minelab GPZ 7000 and bingo first nugget at 10.3 grams... on the first day with it. And to make matters worse it was on the same ground I had gone over repeatedly with the garrett... not to mention it was only 150mm deep

Its payed for its self in 2 months and at 6 months I have found enough to make a living from detecting.

If its gold your looking for buy a good detector with a good track record and you will have better luck. Lots of 4500 and 5000 out there for sale and they have found many ppl lots of gold.

Good luck and may the yellow find you!!!! ;)
